As someone who has bought these before. The bags that hold the black sand powder seem to always come apart. Make sure to bag them individually in ziplock bags or plan on having several bags empty out and the black powder stains bad. Three vests and happened to each one. But as 20 bucks can't expect much.
from my own experience, you won't lose weight with more activity alone, you must also improve your quality of diet and cut out most of the excess sugars, white starches and over processed junk food, which means learning how to buy and cook fresh ingredients yourself.

once that's done, i would not just walk laps around a park, that's a poor motivator. what i do is i pick a store i need to shop in, and i walk there and carry what i need back home. once that's easy, i shop at a further store, then further still, increasing my endurance and maintaining my interest in the walk.

if you live urban as i do, you should align your walk along mass transit lines so if you walk far and can't bare to walk back, you can simply catch a bus back near your home. i would NOT use a bike (trust me, i have one too) because you will consistently exercise a wider array of muscles walking than you do biking.

once you can go a few miles, then you may consider rucking to make your walk more exercise efficient because walking takes time, so if for example you have time to walk 2miles there and 2miles back, adding weight will exercise your like you walked 3+3 miles without having to spend 50% more time at it.

i hope some of this help, good luck.
i got this months ago at $27
i'm older and need to walk a few miles for health.

if you are new to rucking, this is a good sample vest.
i filled the lower rows with 10lbs of the sand bag
pull a 2nd t-shirt over it, so people just think i'm stocky.
once i feel more sure on my knees, i'll go to 20lbs.

i like how the weight is evenly spread out front & back
so i don't look like i got a rectangular boob job
i often wear a back pack full of grocery shopping
and wearing this does not interfere with my pack.

younger people may want to get something else
that can go up 40lbs for gals and 60lbs for guys.
don't confuse rucking weight with barbells,
just because you can lift 40-60lbs a few sets
does not mean you can walk a mile with them.

Does anyone have experience with this one and the one in this link(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01DJHBVS0/) [amazon.com]? Which type would you recommend?

Not just your own experience...modern nutrution science supports that as well. In fact, you may actually gain weight (muscle) if you only exercise and don't change bad eating habits.

If possible, cut out all sugar for a week or two (or if too difficult, at least go for cutting out anything with ADDED sugars - harder than it sounds). Eat less. Eat ONLY when actually hungry.

Exercise is of course important, for other reasons, but it's not the best option for shedding excess fat and losing weight to be more in range with where you should be.

Source: multi month, $$$ program that my state govt insurance paid for me to go through as one of their clients. I lost 30 lbs and maybe more importantly, learned HOW to eat properly (as opposed to what I did before, which was constantly snacking, eating WAY too much, etc). Thing I loved about that was they almost didn't care WHAT you ate...more important, at least initially, was how you ate.

Anyone use something like this with a medium intensity workout? Pushups, sit ups, butt kicks, etc? Or is this really targeted toward hiking/walking?

Thanks

I got this one on the last deal 20lbs for $31.68 and it is extremely durable and still comfortable. I don't use it for walking like others as I prefer Farmers Carry to get an amazing core workout for that, but I use it for weighted pullups and dips. I do a set with it on first until fatigue and then do faster full ROM reps without it and it works for me. Very limited use case for me but for the price a nice accessory for the home gym.

The individual weight sand bags are sturdy and you could use them individually to build up to 20lbs as well.

True, but some people need to start off with baby steps.
If you try to do all of that you just suggested, most people will give up in a week or two.

I encourage people to cut back a little on junk food, etc. and start working out more. Going from nothing to exercising regularly is already a shock to the system. You don't have to start eating baked chicken and steamed carrots immediately.

Establish a workout routine. Do that for 2-3 weeks. Cut out all the sweet treats. That's really as far as I'd go with diet during this period.
Once you feel you've got that down, start weeding out the rest of the junk.

Being healthy is a MARATHON not a sprint. It really shouldn't even be about weekly goals or benchmarks.

What everyone needs is a healthy routine and a healthy mindset.

Do not try to change your life overnight because you will fail.

Slow and steady wins this race.

I would say what she suggested was pretty solid. Start with improving your diet and it's easier to get motivated to workout when you start to see the weight disappear. Work your way up to a decent cardio routine, then continually challenge yourself. This is basically exactly what I did to lose 70lbs a few years back and while I am still tempted by sweets I have been able to keep the weight off. But you are 100% correct that it's a marathon, you need to establish healthy habits.

I bought this ~ 6 months ago and its holding up well so far.

There are way more expensive (and obv heavier) options.

If you are looking into rucking this is a legit starter vest I think .

Thank goodness the SD Gods were listening. Literally just started shopping for a vest, but everyone was recommending 5.11 which is over $100 plus you have to buy weight inserts so $150-200 total. No, thanks. Looking to add weight for pull-ups and general aerobic activity around the house. Reviews are positive and feedback here is strong and $20 is a no-brainer. Thanks all and OP!

Yes, the one here might sag in the long run.
