I agree with you I went to Wendy's to do the deal for the single hamburger and I had nothing but problems with logging in or trying to use it. I had to drive away from Wendy's delete the app reinstall it and somehow it finally worked but it was crazy that I had to leave the parking lot to do it. It almost made me feel like they block it or don't let it work properly when you're in the parking lot going to order. Very strange
Thank you for your input! This is getting interesting! You're one of several here who's mentioned that the problem occurs specifically at the Wendy's location. I'm curious as to where you're located? I'm in the NYC area. I typically don't attempt to use the app until I'm in the parking lot or inside. I prefer to avoid the drive-thru, as they often screw things up. I often use cash as well. Additionally, you can't place more than one order at a time online. Anyway, I'm going to try to investigate this situation (where the app is debilitated at the location). Driving around again just to pick up another order is just plain stupid! I'm convinced that they're playing games with the app, but I was also convinced that they're doing this during certain time frames (so that customers pay full price when it's most busy). I've experienced this same exact problem 3 days in a row this past week, and it's occurred numerous times before. Others at the same location that I frequent had experienced it as well. I'm not being a conspiracy theorist! It's a real (and major) problem!

lol no way am I boycotting Wendy's when I've bought 6 burgers (with 6 jr frosties of course) for $6, so far. Just save the coupon into your "USE IN RESTAURANT" section, and walk into the building, and shut up.
Hopefully, you'll have the same problem that both I and others here have had! Then we'll see who shuts up!😁

Unless you have a spiteful manager who enforces a ONE SCAN PER VISIT policy. It may be less hassle to do one mobile & one in-person. Even easier to do, if you have 2 accounts or 2 phones. You can do 2 accounts on one phone if the app has 1 acct and use acct#2 in your browser.
Never, ever had the "spiteful manager" experience you're describing (or imagining?). It's their policy to allow multiple orders/offers inside the restaurants.

When did the Frosty's get so small? Have not had one in a while and ordered one yesterday with the wendys "free" frosty for a year deal and was surprised that the thing was about 1/2 the size of the last small frosty I ordered. Is the "free" frosty deal just smaller than a regular small frosty?
If you're referring to the key ring (or electronic version) thing, it's always been a "Jr." frosty, not a "small" frosty. The "free" frosty is (and always has been) only 4 ounces.

This seems to be becoming more of a rampant problem! It's time for as many of us as possible to complain about this to local store managers and to Wendy's customer service. You'll likely hear the "technical glitch" BS, but they need to be bombarded with calls (and localized complaints) regardless! This is a scam!

Still not really evidence of conspiracy, this kind of thing happens naturally all the time when companies decide to run a crazy promo. Think about it:

Wendy's is running one of the best no-strings-attached fast food deals on an actual meal item we've seen in years. The demand is going to be incredibly high.

Most orders are going to be coming in during peak rush hours.

A lot of fast food companies haven't kept up with the times as far as using scalable services like AWS for server tasks, and their servers are typically only designed to handle loads up to what they expect during peak hours. Wendy's in particular is somewhat notorious for having especially unreliable servers.

When you suddenly increase those peak numbers by a lot, the servers start to fail at handling requests, and things get buggy.

This explanation seems far more likely than there being some mastermind behind the scenes having secret code written to orchestrate order failures, especially at a per-city level. If you're convinced there's a conspiracy and want to gather real evidence of one though, try putting in a full-price order after your discount order fails a few times; if it also fails, there's no way they're intentionally turning down full price orders. If it goes through, you'd at least have a leg to stand on as far as having reasonable suspicion of conspiracy.
Wrong (sorry)! It's a scam! Firstly, it's occurring to many others. Secondly, it didn't just start with these crazy burger offers. The same issues have existed for months. Third, it almost never occurs with my (extremely busy) McDonald's, Burger King, or others (even at peak times). Even when they're offering crazier deals (like McDonald's and BK basically giving items away with no purchase necessary). The more passive we are (aka, making excuses for them, as you're doing), the more crap they get away with! That's their goal! Victimize the (typical) passive customers who always give them the benefit of the doubt! BTW, I don't need to try your experiment, since a good deal of the time, the basic ordering platform works but the "offers" section mysteriously doesn't ("you have no offers") ....and if you're at or near the restaurant and the app shuts down, most people will just use the drive-thru speaker or go inside. Very few would go elsewhere under these circumstances.

I was giving them the benefit of the doubt as well....until this nonsense occurred 8-10 times (conservatively) over several weeks, and I confirmed that others were experiencing the same exact problem! I'm unsure if they can limit it to a specific region, but at least here in NYC, it has to be intentional! Especially since it's occurring at peak dinner hours and repeatedly! Tried what you suggested, but when the app/website goes down, all is lost, and it's useless!
Happened in the Chicagoland area. I just assumed there was a server issue and moved onto Mickey Ds. I don't look at the Wendy's app often enough to notice a pattern, however.

Just tried it. Still down. I'll just go somewhere else

I did the $2 Dave's Double deal tonight in Southern California, for 2 x $2.

What I do that is easy for me - I'll place one order on my phone app, and a second order from my desktop browser with a 2nd account before I head out to the restaurant.

When I get there, I just say I placed two mobile orders under my name.

They've never given me any pushback. Both orders are packed separately and sealed by the time I arrive. This way I bypass the whole drama of possibly dealing with a manager.

Two burgers is enough for me.

Speaking of sh!tty broken websites, i'm pretty sick of SD not allowing me to use Quick Reply because "my session timed out. Please reload the page and try again." Then i reload the page and it gives me the same error.

Whatever wendys-related info i was trying to post, got lost and wiped out when i had to use Post Reply.

Speaking of games!....This is a potentially serious issue! What they're doing is resorting to intentionally debilitating the app/website at certain times, so that you can't place an online order and use any of the offers! I can't attest to this occurring nationally, but there have been several complaints here on SD about the app/website being dysfunctional (or not functional) at times. I'm in the NYC area, and this seems to occur frequently in the early evening (peak time for ordering)! The offers disappear completely, and there's a message stating that online ordering isn't working! It's become routine (at least in my area), and I've confirmed it with several others at the restaurant (who are encountering the same problem). You can reinstall the app to no avail (I've tried it numerous times). When you attempt to use it again, you'll get another error message. You're just wasting your time spinning around in circles! Then, miraculously, an hour or two later, everything goes right back to normal (consistently)! I'm convinced that they're playing games! In a sense, this is actually another version of "surge pricing" (or whatever you choose to call it)! Once you're on the way or at the location, you'll be victimized by their game and be forced to pay full price! Most will be passive and deal with it (and that's exactly what they're depending upon). I'd strongly urge as many of you as possible to go elsewhere if you have a non-functioning app/website! If enough people do this, perhaps they'll stop playing this game. If you call them, they'll (of course) claim that it's a technical glitch, so that's just a waste of time! Perhaps it's only affecting certain areas, but the only way to combat this is to boycott Wendy's when they debilitate the app/website! If this is intentional (and it very likely is), then it's truly underhanded, and they deserve to lose business as a result....lots of business!
Wendy's is trash and has been trash for years! Ignoring the fact that it's fast food and unhealthy they have been playing with menus for years. Saw something recent where Wendy's is now starting "surge" pricing in select stores before later on it will be all stores. "Surge" pricing basically being if it's busy you will pay x amount more for your food based on the surge pricing model which is similar to Ubers model. As is the same with Uber "surge" pricing can technically happen at any time, which means they can pretty much charge you more than menu price anytime they wish.

This a deal site, but I don't mind offering some tech support haha.

Personally, I'm on Android so this might not apply to iPhone. Sometimes, when it's wonky I'll stop the app, then clear the cache. If that doesn't work, then I'll clear data as well. Clearing data does mean you'll have to log in again. I have noticed that newer Android phones (Galaxy S23 on up at least) have this option to remove permission...and it's turned on by default for every app. Maybe your permissions for the Wendy's app are turned off?
That's funny, I have the same model of phone. I did totally uninstall the app, downloaded it again, and manually gave it permissions for location. I'm not sure if that mattered but nonetheless, the app looked different and it worked two days back to back. I would usually be able to use it for one transaction then the next day it would just sit there and load when trying to load the coupon...for 5+ mins plus, I would give up before any error message was produced.

You have to do 2 things. Add the coupon and then add the item to the cart.

Burger King and McDonald's apps are more convenient when adding a coupon's item.
I've used it before with success but my phone/app decided to just spin trying to load stuff...in the past I would clear cache, reinstall the app, but this time I looked more closely at permissions. That might have been what got me, but nonetheless it seems to be working after trying these steps again...what made me mad is that I had the same problems even on a new phone and have to do the same tricks to get it to work. McD, BK, Chicfila, Taco Bell...all seem to have better apps than Wendy's...their dev team is probably as old as Dave Thomas! (ok he's deceased RIP Dave)

OK, Wendy's Double is a fantastic burger for $8 (or whatever it is in your region), and an incredible deal at $2 with this promo. The meat is fresh, not frozen, the bun is pretty decent, and the toppings are good, not processed. It is unquestionably the best fast food burger available nationally.

Unfortunately, Wendy's Double is NOT as good as a Five Guys burger (which now costs a whopping $13 in my region), because it lacks grilled mushrooms and grilled onions. Grilled mushrooms and grilled onions add that extra taste that elevate their burger like a fried egg elevates just about anything. Five Guys 1/2 lb burger is arguably the best tasting and best value 'standard' burger you can get under $15 at a sit-down place. Unfortunately for Five Guys, $13 is just way too much vs a $8 Wendy's Double.

If Wendy's ever offered a burger topped with grilled mushrooms, caramelized onions and a fried egg, I'd be in heaven!

The first 2 years of online ordering we we lucky if McDonald's an BK (the only places who had an app) worked at all. But yeah they could be purposefully testing to see what they can charge during their new pogram. Err I think I meant program. An boycotts would give them the exact info they need. aka they need lower prices. If everyone boycotted all this inflation stuff; it has to dissappear when supply is far past demand. I prefer to buy a lb of meat for 2$, 4oz of cheese an make a 3$ protein meal thats gaureenteed fresh an probably 3-8 times the size of a burger.
