ABS is not as strong as polycarbonate and therefore the price is low.
Why do i see so many "abs, pass" comments every time there's a suitcase deal? The price is low, plus this is meant for carry-on and not be thrown around in the cargo compartment of commercial planes.
When the gate agent makes you check your carry-on at the gate (which happens frequently now due to ever-increasing checked baggage fees) and your suitcase comes off of the plane cracked (which has happened to me) you will understand.

Bought and returned it. First thing it's not 9x14x22 so can't carry on board and the reviews are mixed on Amazon and Home Depot, with some claiming it broke after 1-2 flights. For $10 more went with the polycarbonate one on Amazon, https://a.co/d/45Xa7bM

Uh, no. Very clearly says ABS with your link.

Exterior dimension: 12" x 14" x 22"

Common Carry On size: 9" x 14" x 22"

There is a good chance that you will be booted at the gate.
Japan Airlines is really strict and they will boot your bag if it's not 22" x 18" x 10"

While material matter, design matters more. The Samonite Oyster design elements--piano hinge, rubber sealing gasket, and clamps vs zippers for closing hardware that are found on newer bags like the American Standard Tribus, Samsonite S'Cure, etc make for indestructable bags. My wife's S'cure has been through well over a dozen international trips and while looking a bit aged from marks, it is just as sturdy as the day she got it. My Tribus have seen similar duty and are still doing the job.

I look for nothing less now--piano hinge, rubber gasket, and clamps or I don't even bother looking further.

Samir, do you have any recommendations on a carry on under 150 or 100 USD? I'm going on a trip to London and Paris next month with IcelandAir and would like to invest in a good bag so I can squeeze as much as possible into it and save on checked bags

I'm out of touch with any modern models, but I have the American Tourister Tribus and my wife has the Samsonite S'Cure. Both have the qualities that I've mentioned and they are both tanks that have seen many overseas and flights now. I actually didn't realize it until right now, but the Samsonite is at least 10 years old now and even my Tribus is at least 5 years old. And both me and the wife are flying at least once a month for the last few years.

This is a pretty old list even though it says '2024', but it has literally the exact cases my wife and I have (even the same color):
https://www.safesuitcases.com/top...#suitcases

The top 5 on this list would be what I would purchase but the ones further down the list are definitely don't have all the qualities I look for even though I have a Cruiseair that two wheels are broken off of. Framed cases can be stronger than non-framed, but nothing beats good shells with a piano hinge and clamp closures.

There's nothing wrong with getting an 'old' model if it's durability you're looking for. The wife's is actually a 'gray model' that was imported to the US as these are usually not even sold in the US. Hasn't mattered to us since it's been flawless and my wife noticed that after a month all the international flight attendant crews were using the same bag, so definitely quality.

Enjoy London and Paris! Love those two cities!
