Percentage of wool keeps going down while the price keeps going up — I wish they'd pick one profit strategy. I have a similar SmartWool wool/poly blend model from a couple years ago and several of their 100% merino items from 5+ years ago, and $200 retail seems high for something that's only 40% wool when the 100% merino stuff performs great.

If I believed they were trying to create the optimal durable, fast-drying insulation blend it'd be one thing, but the creeping poly percentages look more like like cost-cutting. At least now it's at a price I'd consider if I were in the market.

Smartwool is low tier quality now and not worth the prices they ask. Ever since VF Corporation bought them they steadily went downhill in the price/quality ratio. Now they are a pale shadow of what they used to be.

No. Machine wash cold. They say tumble dry low but I'd just air dry.

This actually looks rather nice for early spring / late fall hikes.
I just got my REI dividends that I'm looking to use.
My only issue with smartwool is that the moths always eventually get to them.

So it's a wool jacket that isn't mostly wool no hood as well. How is this better than my net Marino sweater?

yeah their stuff is junk, i've been extremely pleased with Darn Tough for socks. I wish DT would make garments because it's a stuggle finding good merino base layers, most everything is some shitty blended fabric that tears after a few months

I like Icebreaker's quality. Sale prices are decent.

Icebreakers make great base layers. I also like the heavier weight Meriwool base layers they are comparable but cheaper.

I've been trying to find a decent jacket for my wife for an upcoming trip to China (it's going to be moderate when we go in early April from what I hear). I was hoping to find a packable down jacket and keep seeing all these deals for men but rarely ever women haha. Do you guys think there will be some good deals to be had at REI with this upcoming MEMBER24 coupon?

Can't beat the Uniqlo packable down jacket for value.
