Window units, even at matching BTU, are quieter, more energy efficient, and cool better/faster compared to portable. I own 2 portables because I don't have compatible windows.

Agree with the above comment. If you got the space, the window unit wins. The benefit of this is really just the portability. However, this is a really good price for a dual hose.

Never had one of these before. How would it compare to a crappy window unit? Let's assume same btu because it was about 10 years old when I threw it out, I'm strictly wondering about energy efficiency and stuff I might not know about these units that are different from window units.

A good window unit is more efficient than a good portable. The portables are more powerful on avg and easier to change rooms.

I think a window unit is better, but I can't put one in my condo (HOA rules).

A model like this one was a game changer for me! Even the single hose model I had was awesome!

My condo is 3rd & 4th floor (with an open staircase going down to ground level.
I like it cool when I sleep, and my sunset facing 4th bedroom is pretty difficult to keep cool with me central air system. TBC, I can keep it 68° up there, but then it's 60° or less on the lower floors. That's not very cost effective.

A unit like this, I can come home at the end of the even and it's 80°+ in the lower part of the house and 90°+ in the upper, and I can cool down the bedroom pretty quick and make it comfortable and not even worry about the rest of the place. The few units like this have a timer, so I can even set it to turn on automatically around sunset.

It doesn't actually know when sunset is, but I do. So when I get up, I can set it for the right number of hours to turn back on.

If it was a non-HOA house, I'd probably add a window unit. Or add permanent vents so I wouldn't need to let all the light come in the window.

Window unit is always better. AC in reality is a heat exchanger and has to dissipate heat. Way these portable units dissipate heat is very inefficient

Is this true dual hose or single hose, split in half? Had a Toshiba that was the latter. Can't imagine hot air and cold air passing each other on the same hose not reducing the efficiency.

Edit: nvm, the picture shows it's clearly two separate hoses.

I clicked on the link to buy and it's right in the Amazon ad. $259.99 is crossed out. -11%

I just realized it doesn't have WiFi. I don't want to go back to a no wifi unit. darn

Grabbing one at this price.

Hoping it can offset my central AC's load when trying to cool our loft & man-house.
