I always like to remind folks to ask themselves if they really truly need a laptop. Are you going to travel with it? Carry it around the house? If not, seriously consider a mini tower instead. Better thermals/gpu performance/lifespan. And of course far more upgradeability.

This is a pretty nice system and I have been "running" one for several months now.

It is a gaming system; yet, the battery is not horrible 1-4 hours depending on how much load. Ie, streaming will get you closer to the 4 hour mark with a dimmed screen.

I plan on picking up a Quest 3 and then trying to use this box for SteamVR. The only negative is the touchpad buttons are very hard / non-responsive. At least for me, so an external mouse is a requirement for most things.

btw, I paid like $1100 (plus tax and an extended warranty) on the outlet via an SD.

For those interested in testing results... it is fast from a user standpoint. The synthetic numbers, of my unit, are slower than userbenchmark or 3DMark expected. This was tested back in November and the system has been on 24/7 since it went through a week of constant stress testing running (Prime, Superstition, etc). This laptop's 4070 beat my desktop 2080S system by around 10% (ballpark).

User Benchmark reported at 150% Gaming, 110% Workstation, and 153% Workstation.
3DMark / TimeSpy reported a 12,612 or so.

Probably held back by the 4800mhz ram.

A good 32gb 5600mhz ram would definitely make a good difference.

Yikes! Might as well put aside the dumbbells and start lifting this instead.
16" QHD laptop, 32GB, with a 4070. Pretty standard weight considering the specs.

I will keep an eye out for a deal - the CPU was only performing at 7-12% and way under what it should have been. The GPU was at 55-60% and the ram was always over 90 - often 97-99%.

If the Quest 3 lags though then it might be worth the upgrade to push out a little bit more performance.

I disagree. HP Omen (5.4), Asus ROG (4.6), Lenovo Legion (5.6), etc are not this heavy, and typically have USB-PD so you don't have to lug around the 3lb brick. (total weight is close to 10 lbs)

I would say that the increased weight may be worth it for increased battery life, but you don't have Ryzen like with the Dell G15 5535.

Edit: My mistake, this 4070 model actually comes with thunderbolt 4 (not certified for PD), however the very common 4050 and 4060 G15s do not. Laptop is still a good bit heavier than the competition with no lighter charger.

one of the guys in my house senior yr of college got a 1st gen dell XPS (when the XPS was released as Dell's gaming laptop, which was actually just an Inspiron 8600, fixed on top of a massive pack (battery, fans, subwoofer)

it was 9 lbs, and the power brick was easily another 2-3 lbs LOL. we had never seen anything like it before, it was a monster. impressive at the same time.

it didn't even make it to 2nd semester, it cooked itself to death haha

This weighs 6 pounds and the power brick alone weights 4 pounds. So you won't be taking this outside your house regularly unless you hate yourself.

We stopped purchasing Dell g series at work because they were poorly made and quality issues led to many failures.
