Keep that 5700XT. I think the 7600 outperforms the 5700XT a bit at 1080P, but starts dropping behind at higher resolutions due to lower memory bandwidth. The biggest real benefit of the 7600is lower power draw.

Whoa! No!

All the benchmarks and reviews show that VRAM is super important at any frame rate over 1080p. Just look [tomshardware.com]at how the 7600 XT performs compared to this thing at QHD. It gets 25% more frames with a small clock speed bump and extra VRAM.

Cards with 8 GB of VRAM should only be purchased if you plan to stay on 1080p.

I'm needing a good computer. Is the lowest cost way to build it still getting mb/cpu among other parts from microcenter? Specially if I want a large tower or XXL tower? Anyone know a place other than microcenter I can look for XXL cases at? I definitely prefer one with wheels an usually the XXL have some fancy extras like art on them so I'd probably want that too.. I could settle for a mid range system an mid tower an turn it into a wen browser an media center later if there is any dirt cheap place to buy such a pre-built these days
At minimum a 6700xt

Best Buy did the same for me, gave them my home zip (no microcenter within 50 miles) and they still price matched. Thanks OP!

edit : as far as best price to performance low to mid-range card, this one fits the bill nicely.

Looking at the charts there's not much difference in scaling to me. There's a pretty consistent 10% lead of the XT and maybe at 4K with RT, there's 13% ish. Note the RTX 4060 8GB and 16GB versions perform the same no matter the resolution.

Things might change if you add FSR.

This is a PCIe 8x card! You're going to lose some frames on a PCIe 3.0 bus! Still a good value, but you're not going to get quite the performance shown in many benchmarks.

VRAM is overrated. 8GB is fine for most even in future. I would never buy used GPU especially with all the mining that went on.
Yeah at 1080p I'm sure that's true for most older games. Any good modern game at 2k max settings will be struggling.

Finally upgrading my R9 290 after almost 10 years (https://slickdeals.net/e/7428642-xfx-double-dissipation-radeon-r9-290-4gb-215-free-shipping-newegg-with-visa-checkout?v=1&src=SiteSearch).

Looking to squeeze out 10 years with this one! How do I do it? I video edit mini dv footage and game on low settings if and when I have to. Suck on that, planned obsolescence!

Best Regards,

69er

True, but only 1-3% performance loss thankfully. I had the highest benchmark for a while on an outdated mobo.

My 7600 only struggles when trying to get 100+ fps at 1440 on AAA poorly optimized games, but like you said, if I use fsr then its more or less a non issue.

Are amd drivers still an issue? Reliability and dlss is the only reason I'm still keeping my old RTX card.

No, drivers are very good now. Recommend RX 6700 XT 12GB at a minimum (much faster than RX 7600 XT 16GB)

If building a PC yourself, make sure the motherboard and other components work well together. Not every type/brand works well with others, even though they are supposed to be compatible. Most people are completely unaware of this.
