The only time it would not work is say you bought a Japanese game without an English version on the cartridge and purchased DLC on your American account. The Switch is going to recognize them as separate games.
That said, I don't think there should be any DLC for this game given how it's supposed to be the definitive release. I also don't believe the original game had DLC, but I could be wrong.
