Seriously, so tired of the same garbage being posted in every thread.
Just to get the rest of the nonsense out of the way :
1) Yes, it's a lot of data to potentially lose so don't be a moron and DO have a backup strategy if it's data you care about.
2) These drives potentially support PWDIS so make sure you do the 3.3v mod and tape or snip the pin if you have a drive that supports PWDIS but a PSU that doesn't. You can also use a Molex to SATA adapter, but use the crimped ones and not the molded ones since the molded ones can burn up.
3) Yes, they don't ACTUALLY refurbish the drive. Do you know how many places are equipped with a clean room to take apart drives and do actual refurbishing? I don't, but I do know that I don't want some random third party opening my HDD before they sell it to me. Slapping a sticker on it, doing a format or secure erase, and even blanking SMART is about all the refurbishing I require on an HDD. Or a PC for that matter.
4) Yes, these drives have a good number of hours on them. Yes, enterprise drive MTBF numbers are insanely high but don't necessarily guarantee a long life. Lots of hours doesn't necessarily mean a shorter lifespan either. If you can't handle that and would rather pay retail..... bye.
5) Yeo, these CAN be louder than normal drives. But honestly, the helium drives from WD have been no louder than most non-enterprise air drives I've dealt with in the past. Your enclosure, mounting strategy, closeness to the enclosure, and personal hearing ability are all variables we can't know. FWIW, I don't think these drives are "loud".

He doesn't need a hug. He just needs people to be able to post deals on these drives without someone coming in every single time and commenting that they wouldn't use a used hard drive, followed by pages of arguing on how reliable these are and how much life is left in them. And he's not alone. This gets old

The listing says that is has both a 3 year and 5 year warranty. I sent the seller a message asking for clarity. Ill post back what they say.

Also I bought 4 each on two different accounts since the item has a purchase limit of 5.

Is that good or bad number of hours?

Same question here, need 6 for raidz2. Can you buy 2 each time split into 3 transactions? Or is there a hard limit per account?
I bought 5 and couldn't buy more in another transaction. Borrowed a friend's account to buy another set. Hopefully they'll allow it.

Not bad at all. If you have a backup plan + 5 year warranty, find your concerns elsewhere. 2.5M MTBF = Avg time before failure. If you do a bit of math, the chances of it failing at 50k or even 200k hours are negligible.

Now my personal experience w these is I have never ever had one fail (light use over a year when a buddy and I got a handful for some basic media archival). And if you only turn them on for periodic backup and not on 24/7 like in a NAS... Dont even spend the brain juice. Just buy them if you need it.

I bought 10 of these from the earlier Newegg posting from the same seller and every single one came with a SATA power extender that disables the selection pin and an info sheet explaining that. Tried them on a whole bunch of PCs from crappy 10 year old small form factor PCs that were crap when I got them then, my newest gaming build, old gaming build, and my Synology NAS. They worked perfectly on every one using the supplied power cables (the NAS just plugged in directly).

Tested them all (full random write/read, extended SMART tests) and only one failed a read test. I'm returning it and replacing it with one from this sale. All averaged somewhere in the 3 year mark of run time.

It's good given that the seller stated in the description that they were used for 5 years which is around 44,000 hours. Honestly I have drives that have over 100k hours that work fine without issues.

It's raidz2 on zfs and not just raid2 that you are probably thinking about.

These drives definitely have the Power Disable feature.

HUH721212ALE601

0 - Power Disable supported
L - Legacy (no Power Disable)

I agree about the mounting making a big difference but not about theurlhasbeenblocked consumer air drives. Modern consumer drives (air or helium) seem to be tuned for quieter seeks. Enterprise drives generally have faster, louder seeks. Take an Ultrastar and put it side by side with a shucked (helium) EasyStore and you will likely notice a significant difference in how loud seeks are.

It's equivalent to a RAID6, you have a fault tolerance of 2 drives.... which I suppose lets you sleep better at night.

Unless the data is expendable, you'll still need a backup. The above is merely for continuity and convenience, nothing more.

Raid of any sort does not equal backup.
No doubt a few folks around here learned that the hard way. vomit
