Currently, on Google Flights NYC-HND nonstop roundtrip on ANA metal is minimum $1500 no matter what day you pick. 5% off that is hardly a deal.

I read your crazy skills, but the whole point of my original "ANA > United" comment was meant to address why a percentage based discount is relevant and on Slickdeals to begin with.

you could have just said "I go out of my way to avoid paying NYC prices" and that would have been enough. I go out of my way to NOT fly out of LAX because it is one of the worst airports to get in/out of (and I've been doing it for 25 years).

but I'm sure you (and everyone else) already know that... so what's the point of this whole discussion thread? or maybe there are people that haven't flown both UAL and NH?

maybe those people would benefit from some insight.
A percentage discount is irrelevant when fares happen to be high. That's like Amazon increasing a price by 25% and advertising 25% off. Only the final price matters. If you are patient, you can see the fare during low seasons drop to $1200-1300. What would belong on slickdeals is an actual fare sale where ANA drops the price below that.

If you're looking for flights to Japan and don't know United sucks, you must be living under a rock.

yeah and that price point is irrelevant for people outside the NYC area...

as for the United comment, you already know everything. glad we got that cleared up.. but for a lot of other people they can't tell the difference between the two or think they are the same. so are they all living under a rock too?

not everyone has the time/money to shop for flights 24-7, or to fly multiple carriers for what may be a trip of a lifetime (or just once in their lifetime).
