This isn't a bad price for a 3060, but it's still not a great value. You can occasionally find new rx 6600, which are less than 10% slower in 1080p gaming, for $180 or under. New rx 6600xt, which are very slightly faster than the 3060 in 1080p gaming, can be found at $200 or under, though stock at those prices seems to have mostly dried up.

There are some downsides to an amd rdna2 card even in this price tier, namely a lack of dlss and cuda. The 12gb of vram is mostly pointless on the 3060, since it lacks the performance to adequately play games that would use anywhere near that much. Likewise, the raytracing advantage is moot in this performance tier.

Ultimately, even at $245, unless you have non-gaming workloads that the 3060 would be beneficial for, at this price tier you would be better off getting an amd card.

The peanut gallery can never compare apples and oranges. They'll measure new prices vs used then whine about condition / warranty on used vs new. They want everything both ways. Said thing is they are still running a 8800 GTX waiting for that 'next' card to release

BTW, are we still saying "hOlD tHe LiNe BoYz" or is that over?

I had a friend who's father must have been doing something illegal or had an early SD type site in the mid-late 90's. I got to share in some of the technology since he had dual voodoo's and it was amazing for the time. I remember seeing some amazing the reflections on the water or in a cave.

Is this good for video editing? Using Adobe Premiere or DaVinci.. Or what's a better card.

You mispelled 3DFX.
I had a few 3Dfx cards, including the Voodoo 5 5500. At that time, nothing came close to touching it. Too bad some really poor business decisions (like making their own cards) led to their downfall.

Yup. Just make sure hardware acceleration is on so that it uses the graphics card.

What's a better value for a card in this range? Have a 1650 super and haven't had issues with it, but looking for a more modern card for 1440p gaming. Will this be good enough?

pay the extra few bucks and get the 3060ti, u get ~30% to 40% more performance vs the 3060
at that point, you may as well put a few more in and get a 3070.

but if we're there, just go all the way and grab a 3080.

You can price-climb all you want. If they had a 2060 and it died, a 3060 would be a decent bump and a good replacement

If your primary focus is video editing instead of gaming, then intel arc cards might be a good option. To be clear, intel drivers are still significantly worse than nvidia or amd, but they have drastically improved, and continue to improve at a rapid rate. The intel arc a750 can be found at $190 or below ($55 cheaper than this deal), and trades blows with the rtx 3060 in davinci. The 8gb version of the a770 isn't worth considering, but the 16gb a770 goes on sale for $250 or below and offers superior performance to the 3060 while having 16gb of vram.

Here's the latest pugetsystems review of intel arc cards for content creation: https://www.pugetsystems.com/labs...23-update/

Keep in mind those results are around half a year old, and intel drivers and performance have continued to improve at a rapid pace.

Is this worth the upgrade from RTX 2070 Super that's 4+ years old from Facebook Marketplace?

Or should I use that money to buy a better CPU than a Ryzen 7 3700X?

Hold out for like 1 more year if you can and then upgrade both would be my advice.
