I miss the old $1 per gallon days Frown
Buy it, fill it with water somewhere outside or safe if it leaks, watch it for a few days.

FWIW, I've had 4 of these brand of tanks and they're all fine.

We got one of these a couple years ago and it worked fine. However, our local petco fish guy expressed concerns about the size and number of fish you can keep in one with out stressing them out. For instance, most of the fish are school fish so they want friends, but that may mean there isn't enough space for half a dozen fish in a 10gal tank. Again, this is only from this guy but he went far enough as to talk us into returning the fish we bought previously from a different person. We ended up just getting plants and some snails and debating on fish until the snails all eventually died and then we packed the tank up. Kept the plants though! Still have a vase of plants and some little baby snails. He said the snails on the plants are basically pests and will just keep reproducing.

So, we spent at least $100 to have some water plants and snails for a year or 2.
As a long term hobbyist, the guy is right. Would you put 30 cats in 10x10 jail cell. a 10 gallon is best for a Beta, or Shrimp/Snail Tank with maybe 5 fish if you keep up with water changes. A 20G Long is the best for a small tank that allows a wide variety of community fish. People see fish as ornaments, not pets. I would suggest sticking with the plants and just add a beautiful betta and some few snails. everything will be happy.

I bought one 10 years ago, do I need to replace the old one with old glue?

Yes but doesn't it also scratch easier?
No idea how it could get scratched - if my cat pawing at it, sitting on top of it etc. hasn't caused a single scratch in several years, idk what somebody would be doing that would cause scratches. I got both tanks in 2019 and neither has a single scratch, both look as sparkling crystal clear as the day I got them.

Anyone have a good recommendation for a 60 gallon tank stand?
I built my own, 2 for my 40 gallon tanks, another for my son's 55 gallon, and another for his 125 gallon tank. All you need is a circular saw, drill, screws, plywood and 2x4's (and hinges for the doors and knobs if you want to get fancy). Solid as a rock, easy to build, less than half a day to do the whole thing, and easy to adapt the plans to any size you need:

I guarantee it will be cheaper and more solid construction than anything you find in a store.

A lot of the reviews of this brand are sketching me out.
I own 4 of these in various sizes, and probably used and gave away 2 or 3 more over the years. Never had any issue. Reviews aren't always the best barometer for how well something works - I've never thought to comment about how "great" these are because they're just a basic tank and they do what they're supposed to. People are more liable to go to the hassle of leaving a review when they've had a bad experience vs a good one. I mean, 85% of reviewers still said they'd recommend it.

So, we spent at least $100 to have some water plants and snails for a year or 2.

A general rule of thumb is to look at the sticker which says how large the specific type of fish will typically grow up in inches — and this is roughly how much water in gallons to reserve for it. Tropical fishes do like to socialize, and each can grow to 2-3 inches, so indeed 10 gallons is not enough for 6 of them.

P.S. Looking at how large a fish can become is in general a good idea. Maybe there would be less of those shocked this-is-not-what-we-signed-up-for parents after a year of buying that little cute gold fishie…

This deal is decent, though I bought a 20 gallon tank for $23.37 before tax from PetSmart back in September. If you don't need one right now, these cheap tanks go on sale often.

Good post. Would also add that the more fish you put in a tank, the more often you'll have to change the water to keep everyone happy. More fish = more work. Lots of newbies get as many fish as they think their tank can hold, but for your sanity this is not always the best approach.
