I just bought the 18v 4 gallon sprayer from Home Depot the other day. Is there a big difference in the 18v vs 40v?

I'd stick with what you have. There isn't much if any of a performance difference & the batteries are MUCH cheaper. This is a decent deal but there have been some past bargains. That's what I'm holding out for. Best bang for the buck seems to be the HART sprayer at Ollie's for like $35 if you can find one. Granted it's HART, but this is just a sprayer. The orings & plastic seems to wear out before the battery or motor. TTI owns Hart, Ryobi, Rigid, & Milwaukee. There are definite bumps in features & quality. But again, this is a sprayer. Nothing complex.

Can only say from my experience, but I found the 18v pretty useless. I was using my hand pump Round Up backpack sprayer more.

Until I bought the 40v. It's fantastic. Both my 18v and hand pump backpack are both gone.

When you said 18V is useless, in terms of what? I thought the battery voltage does not make too much difference.

You are likely right. A pump at 20V pulling 2 amps is the exact same power as a 40V pulling 1 amp. I can't speak to the Ryobi, but I got the Hart sprayer at $36 that came with a 20V (or call it an 18V if you prefer since they are the same) and it pumps plenty of volume in a very large spray pattern, but again while I can't directly speak to the Ryobi, my pack looks nearly identical and they are made by the same company (TTI).

This is the pack I bought that is similar:

I really happy to have got a deal on one, because I probably would have never bought one at normal prices and realized how much faster it is. Now I'd recommend them at nearly full price if you spray for ants and weeds a couple times per year. I will never use a pump sprayer again except for bleach which seems to destroy everything.

I had a 5 gallon pump and got this last year. 5 acres of spraying fence line and trees this is so much easier. I could never go back. Highly recommend.

The 18v is rated at 60 psi, the 40v at 90 psi. I might have had a weak 18v, but 60 psi should have been fine.
