Fiber glass poles are in the lower end, heavier and easier to break, compare w aluminum in higher end tents, not good especially w wind & extreme weather.
Fiberglass poles
So weight does not really matter then. Tent manufacturers usually figure about 28 inches per person sleeping room when they size up a tent. But for your purposes, I would double that...so when they advertise a 4 man tent, it would be comfortable for 2 people. I would get the bigger tent, it should be fine to use and decide how much you enjoy camping--or not.

4 person tent is 56" (4'8") tall. 6 person tent is 68" (5'8") tall. I wish I could find a tent of this footprint that was at least 6' tall inside so I could reasonably change my pants inside (I'm 6'3").

I'm going camping for the first time in a few months. Need a tent for 2 that we'll likely use in the future. Are fiberglass poles a plus?

Much better options for the price… I made the mistake of buying a cheap Coleman tent after getting semi invested in camping, but now I only buy specialized tents which are a night and day difference in quality but not much of a difference in price if you find a good deal.

Good tents;

- Wawona 6 Tent $349.99 instead of $500. You cannot go wrong with this tent, even thought I don't have it, it is an amazing and awesome tent in quality for that price… The ratings show that.

- Marmot Limestone 4P tent is 239.78 with member24 code instead of 389.00. This is another very solid tent for the price, has a full vestibule which is pretty rare with these newer tents.

I also know someone mentioned the REI Skyward but that is closer to the lower mid grade. It doesn't have a full vestibule which means less wind and rain protection, and is not domed meaning it will catch all wind like a vessel of placed directly in wind. (For the price this is a great calm weather, short weekend tent.)

For car camping I'd go for the easiest, instant tents are great and doesn't matter if your tent weighs 10 or 20 pounds. Also "dark rest" or similar if you want to be able to sleep past sunrise, I got it for our last one and it was great, though you could just pack a sleep mask. Generally the people advise to get a capacity that's 2x the actual people you will have to leave room for walking, gear etc.

I agree. I have different tents for different uses. I have an instant tent for car camping with a group. I would just add that if you are packing gear and food in a smaller vehicle, the instant tents are much bulkier.

Following for this. I'm look for a 8 to 10 person instant tent for car camping for my family of 4. Is there one that people can recommend? It is our first time camping.
