I'm thinking about putting an air compressor on it with a hose and make it a mobile cart so I don't have to lug that thing around

Most compressor has built in wheels. Plus This would be unstable and easily topple over with a compressor attached

I think it's a good idea and should work fine. I made a cart out of a hand truck once but the base wasn't wide enough to support the whole compressor. This might be big enough for a pancake.
Maybe put bolts and washers through the feet of the compressor and through this cart, just in case.
