Some of the models have different quality screens with the same resolution and different battery capacities. They dont list that info. Any way to figure it out before purchasing?

After you order they are providing s/n and you can check s/n online.

Dell rarely makes it easy to return. In the case of Dell Refurbished, it says this:
"What is the return policy?
You may return product purchases within 30 days from the date of the invoice to obtain credit for the purchase price (excluding shipping and handling charges). Please note a restocking fee of 15% of the purchase prices may be charged unless the product is defective (as reasonably determined by DFS at DFS's sole discretion) or the return is a direct result of a DFS error."

So, no...not easy.

bought latitude 7400, had issue with keyboard and battery, contacted customer service thru email and they are shipping me replacement parts.. With just 70% battery life, i'm able to get 5 to 6 hrs of web surfing.. I have disabled the turbo boost in BIOS and haven't seen fan running so far.. it stays cool. And without turbo, it has enough power to use as a daily driver for me.
I'm happy with the purchase.. it has wonderful screen and dell publishes service manual which is very helpful for components upgrades..
will buy again from dell refurbished..
