This must be a joke. These are very easy to setup. Love mine. Will save you well over $100 in a couple months
I'm not really tech savvy, but I had mine set up in less than 10 minutes...that actually included removing the old unit. Was by far the easiest and simplest "complex" if you could call it that controller that I've ever set up.
Another vote that this is easy to set up. Replaced an old controller in 10 minutes and set up the app/zones/map in another 15 minutes. There isn't much to this if you are starting from an existing system. This thing is worth the price.

Noob here with a new lawn to take care of. I planned on just getting a hose and water my 3000sqft lawn manually

Is that a bad idea? Are sprinklers needed for this size of lawn

Have this same model. While I love the "smart features" of this system. It was the single-most difficult smart device that I have set up. For reference I work in IT and I put hours into getting this thing up and running.

I wouldn't buy this again due to that difficulty.

There are many factors to be assessed here... Do you live in a dry climate? Sprinklers are never "necessary" but are both a good quality of life improvement and a good improvement for the appeal/perceived value when selling your home in the future.

Area is mostly humid. Does that mean grass needs less water

If you're willing to water your lawn manually for the foreseeable future, nope you don't need this.

Does anyone else have the Costco app installed so when you click on links it opens the app... But it never goes to the product? Just goes to the regular shop tab.Been driving me insane lately.

I've been having the same issue for the past few weeks. Tried logging out and back in. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app. Checked for updates, but no luck. Not sure what the issue is.

I own this; I replaced an older RainMachine that started giving me erratic access (and the RainMachine company is generally now unfunded, IMHO, with no new updates or development).

It took about 5 minutes to physically install, which included a screwdriver to remove the old unit and mount, a tiny screwdriver to remove the 8 tiny wires going to tiny terminals, and screwing the new mount into the garage wall and clicking this unit into place, and then reattaching the tiny wires to the tiny terminals.

App setup took ten minutes, and involved mostly walking the yard, taking photos of the six stations, and answering a set of questions about soil and rotor/sprayer types for each station.

All in all, trivial, and it's been working great for the past month or so that I've had it installed. This (Rachio) appears to be the new, big brand that everyone recommends, and I can see why - it's a breeze start to finish.

Not that RainMachine was tough…

If you have Android you can uncheck costco.com from the "open by default" within the Costco app settings. Then it will just open the product page in your default browser instead of the app.
