Is this worth $140 more over a 12700kf and same mobo for $429?

14th gen has 8 more e-cores, 600mhz higher boost, and uses 63w more power (253w šŸ˜²), but I don't see any performance difference for most people, especially since you can OC.

Spend the money saved on more/better ram. šŸ¤”

If you have a micro center close they have the 13700k that includes an iGPU plus an Asus z790-P prime wifi motherboard and 32gb of ram for $550.

It's absolutely worth it. 50% higher multithread performance, 14% higher gaming performance, 18% in photoshop, etc. On top of allowing far better RAM support for high end kits. You'll never get anywhere close to these performance gains with just a new motherboard and RAM.

The i9 seems like a better deal. Although it's a gen behind. $400

Isn't CAS latency of 32 on the Ram really bad?

No. There are much worse kits for ddr5 6000.

With DDR4 it was pretty standard to be 3200CL16 or 3600CL18.

But for DDR5 6000CL30 is the sweet spot right now, 6000CL32 definitely isn't bad there are kits that are 5400CL40 or worse.
For a deeper explanation just Google DDR4 vs DDR5 plenty of articles. But basically people wondered the same thing when we switched from DDR3 to DDR4.

Is the Tomahawk z790 better than the aorus elite x ax bundled on newegg right now? Heard some issues with aorus vrm buzzing and other issues with gigabyte prev gen mobos, but wondering if Tomahawk has its own issues or if there is one i should be leaning towards.

It's only better if you have a GPU atleast as good as a RTX 4080 or 4090. Otherwise if your running a 60 or 70 series card, the extra cpu cores will do no better than previous gen cpu

Good deal. I just bought this exact combo but separately for $609 recently.

I'm a very occasional builder, and this was the first CPU I'd ever bought without any onboard video, so a warning from my experience if you're in the same boat: If you have a large GPU and you have to troubleshoot or change any SATA connections or m2 drives, you might end up taking the GPU out and putting it back in a lot, because pretty much all of that is under it. Would have been nice to be able to get everything working and then add the GPU. I don't think that construction is unique to this motherboard, just something I hadn't really considered.
