Thanks OP - I like the earthboxes a little better, these are very similar. A great way to grow veggies in a small area. Be sure to add at least 2 cups of dolomite lime for tomatoes to prevent blossom end rot.

You can grow some beautiful tomatoes in these! Cucumbers, Zucs, various pepper varieties, onions, carrots and beans are some of the vegetables I've grown in mine. These will even work for strawberries.

I've been using two of these grow boxes for six years and they are still in good condition. I paid $20 each six years ago and saw them on sale for $20 last year; perhaps infection has finally raised the price. Still, these do a great job with tomatoes and peppers. I buy the container varieties and grow 4-6 plants in each container which yields a nice crop. I use the recommended mix of soil, lime and fertilizer and bottom water through the tube. The wheels are helpful for moving the full boxes as needed.

$20 is a slicker deal when it's available (it will be $20 again). I own it - last 5 years it's worked pretty well. Dont expect that felt cover to last long. I got one season out of it. You'll need to budget for some landscape fabric every year assuming you want to help prevent weeds from growing. It does yield nice results, especially with tomatoes.

Depends on how much sun your planters are getting (from which sides) and how well you prune your plants. I used to do 2 tomato plants per planter and let them grow wild. 3 is probably possible they don't block the sun for each other (happened for me when I had these on a balcony with sunlight only coming in from one side). Anything over 3 is probably pushing it because the roots will start competing for water and nutrients. In hot summer days I had to water these every day because 2 large tomato plants would drink the whole reservoir.

I will never not comment on a deal for these because I had nothing but good experience with them. You can find them a few times a year around $20-30 and they work really well if you follow the simple directions they provide. I successfully grew all kinds of cherry tomatoes in these (harvesting as much as 1-2 pints a day from 4 plants during the summer), lunchbox peppers, jalapeños, eggplant, herbs, strawberries, and even a mini watermelon (which died because of spider mites before it was fully ready to eat).

Prepare to replace the platlstic covers they provide every year. I just buy a box of contractor bags and cut them to size. I'm sure there are other, easier ways.

I bought two of these last year and planted three indeterminate tomato plants in each planter. If you follow the instructions (potting mix, lime, fertilizer, soil cover, etc)...you'll have non-stop tomatoes for months! They grew so fast and healthy... each one grew past 20-25 ft I couldn't believe it.

I'm planning on growing some determinate plants this year. My patio was a jungle last year because of these planters.

Yes, and what also manifests as end rot is inconsistent watering.

I've done up to 4 heirloom tomatoes (indeterminant) with a support system around the box

I use a weed barrier, cut to size, for the plastic covers with bungie cords from the dollar store. Each cover lasts about 2 years for me (YMMV), depending on how harsh the weather is (Midwest region). They might last longer if I remove them after the growing season but I'm too lazy 😅

These are great. Have these for 4 years….. grew 4x tomatoes (cherry or roma)… key is to have full sun and good supports. We put sticks next to tomato when they are young and tie them all together so they straight (to some extent)….
Beauty is in winter you can simply put garlic bulbs in it and get garlic by end of may, so you get constant use of the pot/ potting mix year round.
Edit: also grew others like peppers eggplants… came out well… with good organic seeds, we got tomatoes good for 7 months during yield period of July- October.
