Highly recommend for those who can get into the quirkiness. There's some dressing up, predictable dialogue, but an all around good experience with a good story to tell.

Any recommendation for which one to start with? Should I just go in order, or is one better than the other?

I played Mario rabbids sparks of hope first then played the original due to the mechanics being better in sparks of hope.

It's worth trying these games if you've never played an Atelier game before. Even if you aren't particularly interested in the aesthetics (anime, jrpg), the alchemy system in these games is a unique gameplay element you don't really get from any other games. The system isn't quite as intricate in this one compared to other games, but the Ryza series is probably the best trilogy in terms of well roundedness since the Arland series, and one could argue that a more simple version of the alchemy system also makes it more accessible.
