Like you, I'm using Gain because someone else in the family liked the scent. We mostly don't ever have stained or super dirty clothes, like you with the fuel from work, so I wonder how important all of that is.
Also, never tried the Oxi variety. Anyone know if its significantly better than regular plain Gain?
I just know this: science fair projects I have seen have shown that tide is better than most others..

Note that Tide has many versions. Their Basics line, for example, had only average performance So if you want top performance, you'll need to buy the most expensive versions.
In truth, cheaper detergents like Gain and Arm&Hammer are just fine for most people. Most of us don't have to deal with chocolate, wine and grass stains on a regular basis. I use a pre-treater and keep a small bottle of Tide for those rare occasions when I do have a tough stain. For for regular washes, this Gain is a much more economical option.
So choose your Gain whether you want better cleaning or better odor riddance.

Since I don't have stains hardly ever and even if I do, there's stain treatments like Shout, I choose Gain because I like the smell and the money saved is almost irrelevant.
