If you can stomach an unnamed brand, you can find a $40 8-port 2.5 gbits switch on Alieexpress. If you ask how I know - cause I just ordered two myself.
The same as any other device, good firewall rules.
How do you know they are not sending data packets back to mothership?

I was looking around and got this on Amazon for $41 with a coupon just a few days ago. Hooked it up to my NAS last night and works good (for now).

I was tempted to buy it for the price but still have two ports free on my qnap switch, so figured I would wait...then the coupon disappeared and thought, well crap, now I feel like I should have bought it

I got this one and it's even cheaper now at $10.27 for USB-A and $10.20 for USB-C.
Select your correct version as their page has 1Gb and 100Mbps USB adapters.

https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32...32837.html

Works on Windows well and uses the newer Realtek RTL8156B (uses less power and therefore runs cooler).

I'm actually using it with a $46 Lianguo 8 port 2.5Gbe + 1 10GbE SFP+ and it's been working well for a few weeks. TP-Link outlet store.
https://www.aliexpress.us/item/32...64140.html

Connected to the SFP+ port on my ASUS RT-AX89X router's SFP+ port and get 10Gb between the switch and router.
I used a $10 23ft SFP+ fiber cable (integrated passive OM2). Seems to be sold out and removed from their store but there are other sellers. The fiber cable is integrated with the 2 SFP+ modules so it's cheaper but if you are routing it between walls you may have challenges.

I think they are competing more with TEMU as I got all of them within a week from China. Just be sure to check the shipping time and make sure it gets free shipping (check the free shipping box when searching).

Because they are unmanaged layer 2 switches (no IP address, no routing). I guess they could make it a layer 3 and send packets but if you want to spend more for switches that are still made in China... Maybe Taiwan made switches are more trustworthy?

I'm curious now... Can you forward packets without an IP address? Please tell me. I love my packets!

I would get the POE version so you can use this for wifi 6E or 7 access points too. That's the only reason I was looking into these 2.5G switches. You can get 10GBe SFP Mellanox/NVIDIA cards for your desktop cheap.

Interesting switch at an interesting price.Tenda is a company I've heard of, but I don't know that their quality is any better than the cheaper no name switches. At their listed retail price, I would definitely go with someone established like TP-Link or microtik. But at this price, it's interesting. It's not the cheapest switch out there so you just have to ask if you willing to pay just a few dollars more for Tenda over a brand you've never heard of.
