Many. Southwest Gift card sales at Costco and Sam's always make front page.
That agent was indeed misinformed. The terms specifically say "Not valid on flights purchased with Rapid Rewards points." I would trust the terms over random agent.
Cancelled current Apr flight and rebooked. Paid $165 extra for 2 months of companion. Lets see how much I can use it.

Wait, if I cancel my flight and rebook it, I'm able to take advantage of this??
Yes, all they need is a newer booking after you register for this promo.

I did this exactly. Go ahead

This deal gets nullify once you realized that you are paying double the ticket cost for the same flight other airlines offer, at same time and destination. SW lately has been inflating their prices, greater than competitors, and the Companion pass just makes it equal to purchasing two tickets. I got the Companion pass for Jan-March, and Hawaii tickets were $400 RT, while Alaska and HI Airline was $200 for comparable flights. The only advantage was the 2 checked luggage, which I took advantage of to pack my snorkeling gear. The Companion pass is now a ploy by SW to hold you captive, not provide savings. But its free to obtain, provided that you follow the rules. I would only do it, if I already had a RT flight on SW during the term dates. Just be aware that you will be paying the same price as SW competitors.

Can I purchase the flight with a gift card? (I see that it cannot be booked with points but wasn't sure if GCs are okay)
In abundance of caution, I wouldn't. It has to be a revenue generating payment, aka cash..check... or credit. GC prob qualifies, but if it does not explicitly state it, I wouldn't use GC as its a way for them to deny. I had done something similar and chat with SW about it, in the chat they stated I was fine with my method of payment. Months later, I never received the CP email.

Not a big traveler, but I want to book a nice 3 day trip with my wife in September/October. We are from chicago. Can anyone recommend a nice place to visit that isn't too expensive?

That would be crazy, cash value is cash value. I bought lots of gift cards and had planned to use them including on promos like this. Though I'm holding off on flying Boeing for a while, which Southwest is stuck with exclusively, that's my "abundance of caution."

Doesn't really matter. Just book the flight, then when the price drop get flight credit for the difference.
Was wondering about this. If you book a flight and then the price goes down and you "rebook" the same flight and get difference back in credit after 3/27, does that disqualify that flight(s) from the promo?

Seems like a lot of people here could really use reading lessons. Almost all of the questions asked here are answered in the details of the promo.

Cancelled my flight and rebooked. It cost me $40 more. Totally worth it as long as we take a trip or two with the companion pass.

Not a lawyer but some deets in fine print caught my eye

1. Changes made to any itinerary after purchase of a one-way or round-trip revenue flight may eliminate qualification for this promotion. "

As others have stated, they jacked the rates for the 'good' NS flights No idea if modifying as to price drops would negate the promo???

2. "Valid on new qualifying revenue flights booked during the Promotion Period for travel during the Travel Period and flown within the Travel Period"

Was tempted to cancel upcoming travel & use credit to rebook same flights to qualify

Now, second thoughts as to the above section(s) of fine print???

Thinking perhaps best to save credit and use GC or CC to purchase?

Does anyone know if flights booked through Chase Travel would qualify for this promotion? Or does it have to be directly through Southwest

I just got off the phone with SW and was told that a flight purchased with a GC does count as a revenue flight. He sounded confident even when I specifically asked a second time about this in relation to the promotion and companion pass, fwiw. I just booked two roundtrips for my wife and daughter using them, fingers crossed!

Best way to find cheapest RT flight from my home city? Tempted to just go somewhere for cheap if only to get the CP.
Look for the 'where we fly' map. It shows all their routes and you can filter by non-stop.

Does it count if I purchase two, one-way flights for myself and my wife?... Or do I have to fly two legs myself?
It must be the same RR#. So it looks like you're going to Vegas by yourself!

You say this like it's a hard and fast rule that all their flights are double the cost. That's absolutely not the case. When flights are on sale, they're still quite competitive.
