I don't recommend this, save your money and wait for the HP brushless model. Significantly better in every way.

Similarly, I love most of my Ryobi stuff but this vacuum just isn't that good unless you're only cleaning carpet. It has a powered roller and that does do a decent job on carpet.
Unfortunately, it just doesn't have enough power on bare floors or for tasks that demand more suction. I ended up getting an older refurb Dyson with the fluffy roller for our bare floors, and use a Ryobi battery attachment. A little weird looking, but works great!

I got this stick vac for less at dto last year and it works fine. Use it on both carpet and hardwood floors. No complaints, except from the cat who hates it. The dog wants to play with it every time. Will need to check out the hp model and compare the 2 of them.

Just don't pay that retail HD price. For $199 regular price, you can get a refurb Dyson V8 all day, and for another $25 get a Ryobi battery adapter. That'll be a much more powerful stick vac.

I have it from direct tools outlet for more than 2 years now. It works ok, but mainly on hard surfaces. Also the roller on the bottom is easily tangled by hair and lose the already miserable suction. It is a cool looking gadget, but suction is small.

My Dyson V8 battery is on its last legs, it barely made it up my stairs last weekend. I was wondering if I can adapt to a Ryobi...your post made me go find an adapter. It won't be as good form-factor wise as one of red/bluegreen/yellow brands, but I own a bunch of alien batteries, so I'll make it work.

It looks weird but works quite well. The only downside to the Dyson seems to be how quickly it eats batteries and with the Ryobi adapter, that complaint is remedied since you can just swap in another Ryobi batt.

There are only 2 annoyances IMO -
1) Using the Dyson on Turbo mode eats even a 4ah battery pretty quickly. But not many tasks call for Turbo.
2) To empty the dust bin you may have to eject the battery. Not a big deal for me, but maybe some people will freak out ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

Thanks for your comments! I can handle the caveats you listed, nbd.

How do you store the Dyson now? Do you take the battery off to put it in it's dock?

Dang, you caught me mid-edit!
We only use the dock as a stand but honestly, most of the time we simply leave the Dyson out leaned against something since we can now grab it for quick jobs and not have to worry about charging the battery that often.
In low mode, the 4ah Ryobi batteries last quite a while! I usually just empty the bin when it's time for a battery swap.

Looks like I actually have the V6 at home.
2 YouTube reviews show the V8 with a Ryobi adapter and you CAN empty the bin without ejecting the battery so depending on which one you got, maybe #2 isn't even a negative anymore.
Turbo mode is probably still a battery hog, unless mine is an outlier. Still, that's very manageable.

Good luck!

What's the best Ryobi-Dyson adapter that you recommend? Something like this? https://www.amazon.com/TPDL-Batte...B0BRM4F96T

For those of us already in the system, the tool only for $185 would be reasonable imo when in stock.

I searched the reviews with the keyword 'dyson' and the majority of the 60 results actually preferred the Ryobi vac over the Dyson. There are also reviews on YouTube comparing if you want to see an in-depth comparison.

I have this Ryobi after watching the YouTube vids and the suction is amazing, they must have done something similar to Dyson and with the dual brush roller it is very effective.

From what I saw online, the warranty on the Ryobi vac, plus not having to use an aftermarket adapter I took the chance knowing I could return it immediately if it didn't meet my needs and now it's my wife and I's favorite vacuum.

There are features you can get on the various Dysons that may be better than this, but some we are happy with on the Ryobi are that it stands upright on its own, the button to turn on and stay on, and that it starts up on high automatically.
