They basically increased the price and then added coupon.
I just got a similar unit for my son's room. His is the furthest from the air handler and the air there was almost non existent.

The model that I installed has a sensor for temp and settings for heat and cooling. Essentially it sees the heat come on and the fans get started. I have it set at 75. The temperature coming out of the registers is 90+. Eventually when the heat turns off this will run for a bit longer, pushing any remaining heat in the vent into his room.

It's not a night and day difference, but it sure helps.

Of course I was lucky that there was an outlet nearby since it's a baseboard register.

They advise against installation in a ceiling register..
I use one from ac infinity. If the hvac sucks in one particular vent, having this increased airflow by what feels to be 50%. Not amazing but better than it was before.

These are a bandaid for a broken or poorly engineered system.

do you know of any good write up or tutorials on how to use these with hvac vents? my central air barely keeps the house warm up on 85 plus degree days and keeps the house really cold on days where the temp drops below 40 degrees.

i've had 2 hvac technicians say my unit is fine. i used an IR gun to try to gauge the temp coming out of the vent and it looks okay - so want more data to figure out what might be going on.
I just watched a bunch of YouTube videos to get a general idea of what the vents should be coming out at. You just turn it on, put it to the setting you want and it will immediately read it. Turning the fan on probably will give the best results. I have a FLIR thermal gun and it was crazy when I pointed it at the ducts in my friend's house that had the inline booster, you could see the heat shooting right up to the ceiling. I still have to go back and measure the cfm, I didn't have the device at the time. My friend has bought a ton of houses so she knows a thing or two and one of the things I learned is if you have a basement, if there are any exposed, unfinished walls, put that insulated foam board over them. Also the areas above the basement walls that go to the outside usually just have some sort of cheap insulation so you want to get that out, seal it well and then fill it with good insulation. She did it in her last house and it made a huge difference. That's one of my projects for this summer.

Can I use this to blow/transfer cool air from a much cooler room to a warmer room but installing it between the two room that just has wood framing and sheetrock? In other words, I don't have the need to connect this to a duct system. This is because I built a new small room that is on the other side of a bigger room which has it's own split AC and I want to move the cool air into the new small room that is warmer with no AC. The split AC is already there for the past 2 years and I don't want to change it out for a multi-zone and spend an additional $3-4K for parts and labor.

Thanks in advance.

Wow these have really gone down in price, was thinking about buying an ac infinity last year and they were like $90. Now with these knockoffs the prices are sub $50.

This one looks to be the same thing and even cheaper with remote.

I bought this one in bronze and 4 x 12 for the same price. Great deal IMHO
Thanks

Power consumption is listed as 6 watts. That's a very low number. The fans appear to be typical case fans which run at 12v. You could probably run a small battery setup with that barrel connector if you wanted. Even store the battery in the vent or behind a blank plate in the wall.

Of course the alternative is to have a professional come and flow-balance your system (or DIY if you're inclined) so you don't need band-aid fixes like this.
You could shove a 12v car battery back into the duct, shouldn't block much airflow if you use a battery from a small car like a corolla or kia. Right?

Most existing vents are far away from outlets so unsightly wiring sticking out from the vent is the issue for me or other people

Agreed. In theory, even when it works, it takes the conditioned or heated air from other rooms. Zero sum game. Also, may decrease back pressure for the main blower.

Cord seems to be in a poor location. Wouldn't it be better to come from the top middle?

Interesting that it's called a "cooling booster" and not an HVAC supply booster. Regardless, if you need something like this then somebody dun screwed up the math when they installed your HVAC system. This is just a couple of 120mm high flow PC cooling fans, you could easily make this yourself, if you wanted to. The fans you probably already have in some old equipment sitting in the garage or attic. The temp control, that's $10 or less bucks in it's basic form, or about $20 if you want it with ALEXA home automation.

But if you need something like this, the real fix is to change the size of your supply line, not band-aid it with a toy booster!

The backs of these units are ugly, and probably not the depth of a wall.

Search for a room to room fan.

Depends. Mine works fine but needed to cool the room faster so this works. Just like a ceiling fan that helps circulate the air in the room.

Haha!

I feel every company needs a 10 year old boy on their marketing team as the Giggle Tester of new ideas. If he giggles...don't use it. Looking at you, Dick's Sporting Goods! Feel like I need to use Incognito Mode just to look for sports equipment. Don't want that search in my browser history! Smilie

Most new construction homes are just thrown together to minimum legal and industry requirements. Ductwork is done haphazardly with no real airflow design or planning and almost always results in room-to-room imbalance. It costs $3,000+ to have redone by a real HVAC company. That said, new homes also have all ceiling registers that these things don't work on.
