2.58¢/g Protein - Optimum Nutrition Whey Blend (Isolate > Concentrate)Price: $45.15 for 5 lbs.11% of Protein is Leucine77.4% of mass is Protein80% of calories are Protein
This is an extremely good price for a name-brand whey blend that is mostly isolate. Definitely a slick deal.
A few comparisons:
- This recently expired deal was 2.55c/g of protein, insignificantly less.
- The nutrition label has changed slightly, but not significantly
There are less expensive options in terms of cost per gram of protein on the community wiki of this post, but they all are either vegan, less-recognized brands, and/or mostly concentrate. So, this deal is not rock-bottom price, but provides solid value for what it is.
I still have that other 10lb bag from the last time they did this.

- If you need isolate due to diet, cholesterol, or lactose intolerance, you buy isolate.
- If you don't need isolate, concentrate is just as good.
So, why blend them? The people who need isolate probably can't use a blend. If you don't need isolate, you can just use concentrate, which is likely to be less expensive.
Nearest I can tell is all marketing - it tries to provide a differentiator in a crowded and competitive marketplace, even if that differentiator doesn't provide any value.
Each brand wants to claim it has the "magic mix" differentiator that makes it superior to "plain" concentrate or isolate. That mix doesn't exist - it's all spin.

Order and switch to s&s to get the extra discounts to apply.
If you want unsweetened whey at a good price you have to probably buy it in bulk (like 40lbs at once). I just switched because while artificial sweetener is not unhealthy, consuming it in LARGE quantities (100+ g a day every day) was giving me a bit of gastric issues
