No, the outer jacket didn't "split open"! Please quote a review that depicts your claim. There's a photo that depicts damage to the outer jacket from someone who was using this to extend the cord of a vacuum. What really occurred is that this genius ran over the cord with the vacuum and then blamed it on the cord! This is a good cord that I've used for several years without incident. I'd suggest that you be more skeptical about (bogus) reviews and perhaps avoid relaying those bogus claims here on SD.
