Is this analogous to wanting a Porsche so bad that you're willing to buy one that has had its odometer reset and it has a Volkswagen engine?
No. It's buying a used Porsche that's been detailed. Just because it's not coming out of a Porsche dealership doesn't make it any less of a Porsche. Make sense?

even at 87 dollars still not worth the risk
Yes, lots of people make decisions based upon fear and are unable to do the math of risk and value, nor are able to understand the failure statistics of refurbished products and infant mortality.

It's great though because it means better prices for those of us with a clue who buy up these great deals with no ill consequences.

stay fearful my friend, nothing to see here!

If these are the exos, they legit sound like a small jackhammer going off. Not a problem if you're using this to store games, but if you use this in the living room computer watching a movie while writing, definitely noticeable.

These NAS drives are solid, been using them for over 5 yrs w/o issue - can't vouch for the wty process as never used it.

Was almost tempted to grab half a dozen except the zip small print makes it a crappy deal. They charge $5 for a $200 installment payment so it's mot the worst but I'll pass.

If I needed them may be I would take the deal.

I just pulled the trigger on two of the 12TB HGST drives earlier this morning! I could have had another 4TB for about $15, although I find it worrisome that these MDD drives have had their power-on-hours deleted (like buying a used car with a rolled-back odometer. That's what I'm going to tell myself as to why I made the right choice.

Are you paying with Zip?

I have one of these in my Synology. Still working great after a year. I'm in for another. I'll pay the extra to not have the zip loan.

Crap! I brought 12TB drives 2 weeks ago. Thinking of I should go thru the trouble to return those and get these for the lower price/TB ratio
Easily $20 of wasted shipping for something that silly

The risk of needing to utilize the 5 year warranty? I'm trying to come up with reasons why I do need this cause I want it so bad.
Why? It's the same risk or greater from all brands that only offer 3yr warranties! This is a great price per TB ratio. Just get one, let the brand/seller prove it's worth with meaningless data over time. Once you are satisfied one or both are reliable, maybe then trust something important to store long term. Rinse and repeat. Trust but verify!
Good luck.

Would these work in an external usb docking station for 3-2-1 backups? Would I need to worry about jumpers or workarounds?
