I did a lot of research before pulling the trigger on the switch OLED for my daughter. I was hesitant to do it because the Switch 2 was rumored to get a release early-mid 2024 but shortly after I got it, the word was that everything was pushed back 1.5-2 years (which is crazy to me). Again, hopefully someone can prove me wrong because I would love to see the next gen of these devices with updated processors, graphics, and tech in general.

1. More time to polish first party launch titles
2. Some component prices are a bit high right now and it would be difficult to manufacture enough for demand.
The last one cracks me up. Nintendo intentionally created shortages for free advertisement/buzz.
And it's fine to buy one now anyway. All sources point to Switch 2 being backwards compatible anyway. So, when the new one arrives, sell the old for a few bucks and she can continue to enjoy the collection of games she has amassed.
Nintendo definitely was innovative and they can always go back to being that. I do think, however, they can rest on their laurels for a long time still and remain like the rest of their corporate counter parts. We'll have to see what happens
