This is a good deal for this model. Specs to price ratio is good too.

The 16GB model with 7840U (last year's model) was available at Costco at around $700 and was a pretty decent deal. But the main advantage of this model is of having 32GB Ram which may be important for people planning to do CPU intensive works as you can'y upgrade it later.
Also, this model has been swicthed to HS series Processor (35W base TDP) from last year's U series Processor (15W-28W) which will give it a decent boost due to higher clock speed and higher power.

Any reason to get the MediaTek wifi over the Realtek Wifi? Is 6E really that prevalent? Or are there issues with the Realtek radios?

Great specs given the price. It's the newer CPU they just released too (although I know it's very similar to the previous gen here). The last time I used one of these the build quality wasn't great though - does anyone know how the recent gens are? I'm currently using a 14" latitude, which has a great build quality, but the i7-1270p keeps throttling because the cooling isn't adequate (which is why they mostly sell that laptop with the U cpu's).

The last point of yours. Realtek Wifi drivers are known to have bugs, causing connection drops, poor receptions and sometimes never reaching their full bandwidth. Mediatek Cards are way better now a days and in lot of laptops, they can match the Intel cards. On top of that, that mediatek Card I've mentioned, is also called RZ616, which is a joint development by AMD and mediatek and performs really well.

Pretty solid build quality and don't confuse this with the normal Pavilion series. There are plenty reviews available for the 2023 model, check those for Better understanding.

Nice specs. Not sure which is better, this one or Lenovo's recent 16" thinkpad 4k OLED (60hz) also with 32gb of ram.

I have the 16GB HP Pavillion Plus from Costco during the 12 days of xmas sale for $600. I'm happy with it. Although 32gb is nice, I'm not sure I'd pay $289 more for an extra 16GB. For my use case of surfing the web, league of legends, not sure I ever need more than 16gb (really 12).

If this has the same speakers as the one Costco sells, I had to return it because of how aggressively bad they sound.

This is identical to the deal with the 16GB version but is $150 more. Sounds like HP is copying Apple in memory upgrade pricing. Ain't no way 16GB of soldered chips is $150. Heck, Lenovo was charging $50 more to go from 32GB to 64GB when I bought my P16s.

32GB is nice, but $150 kills the deal.

I have had nothing but problem with Realtek wifi. My 2 friends' and my Legion 5 2018, bought from 3 different countries, all used Realtek wifi card and all had trouble after exactly 6 months. It still worked if you only surf the web but the connection was so unstable that I could not do anything ping dependent. Swapped to an intel card and has been going strong ever since.
