I have to wonder about these, and any other from AAS-approved manufacturers but sold on Amazonโ€ฆhow can we know for sure that what we receive are in fact legit? Amazon can't guarantee they're giving you the real thing since mixed inventory happens all the time, from what I understand.

Given that the eclipse is in what 6 days? I wonder if you would get the glasses in time. Guess the last day to order it would be 4 days ahead?

I love how everyone is questioning these. They do provide the medical certificate and they are quite literally a black piece if plastic. I put my phone flash literally directly behind it and you can barely see the flash through the film, these will work fine...

I bought these yesterday then canceled them since someone said they might not be certified? Hmm

Just do a quick test, it's not that hard. Put them on and look directly at a light bulb. Dim and mid brightness ones should be completely invisible. 100w ones should be barely visible if you have good vision, but you should not be able to make out what it looks like. if you can still see stuff with the visors on, dont use them for solar viewing.

looking at a light bulb briefly, even with no protection on, will not damage your vision. just dont test it on the sun.

In the image, they have the glasses over a phone camera.

What happens when you point your phone camera directly at the sun? Does it damage the sensor or something?

If your phone camera has a telescopic lens, very possible to damage it. It focuses the light. Without the magnification, I think you'd probably be okay.... But you probably wouldn't get a whole bunch of detail anyway..... it would be a waste of time at the very least.

and if you tried to take a picture through a viewfinder, it could also focus the light onto your eyeball looking through the viewfinder and quickly do serious damage... don't use any magnification without filtering the pre-magnified light for sure...
