I got both 12900k bundle and this one 13700k bundle from microcenter in the past 2 weeks.

Here are my thoughts:

1. Asus board is better. I had issues with not recognizing nvme and slow boot time with MSI board. The MSI's default voltage is too high and causing high cpu temp, especially with enhanced turbo on. No issues with asus board although you need to get a nvme heatsink since it's not provided with the board.

2. I undervolted both CPUs. Set offset -0.070 and -0.05 and power limited 125w and 120w pl1/pl2 on 12900k and 13700k respectively. 12900k lost about 12% and 13700k lost about 18% in multi thread but the temperatures are <65 c under benchmark and still about 10% faster than 13600k. Gaming temp is around 50-55 c. Overall 13700k runs slightly hotter but still scores better than 12900k in multi thread.

If you are buying for gaming only, just get the 12900k. It's a lot cheaper and the fps is almost the same between these two CPUs.

It is for gaming purpose but there's plenty of pleople needs their desktop for productivity reasons. Even though ryzen's been a great alternatives, a lot of productivity softwares tend to support intels better.

While the Core i7-13700K and i7-14700K perform pretty much equally, there is a big step up between the 12 and 13 series. So the i7-13700K is going to outperform the i9-12900K. I built a gaming PC back in the fall and went through the exact same debate between the 12, 13, and 14 series.

What is this legendary "productivity" people keep talking about? Exactly what application out there is CPU limited to that degree that a cheaper CPU with even a low-end dedicated GPU wouldn't outperform it?

I bought the previous deal back in October / November, running it everyday. Absolutely loving it. I use it to work from home and my Chrome browser makes the PC consumes up to 41GB of RAM at times, yet not even hot nor hiccups of any sort. Waiting for another i7 14700k deal

Literally most of productivity task besides ai and 3d rendering stuffs mostly use cpu only. There's people who buys 16core cpu with 1660s just because they don't need gpu at all. Don't think you're understanding that cpu and gpu does totally different stuff.

He's talking about using AMD chips instead of Intel. The guy he was quoting, was referencing the conjecture, that many applications are "optimized" for Intel over AMD.

I agree completely, unless you are doing 2k or 4k gaming at 60+ fps, graphic design, or video editing, or CAD then is really no need for a dedicated graphics card. That's why the millions of office PCs out there run perfectly fine doing corporate productivity applications with no GPU. Integrated graphics are good enough today that you could even do 1080p gaming just fine

Of course, what was I thinking. I thought CPU and GPU do the same things. I mean, there's gotta be productivity things, otherwise why would people sell them. You're right, it was so obvious! I should buy more cores to be more productive, because it's called productivity right? We gotta do all the things faster. But not gaming. No we don't play games here. We're serious people!

I'm still waiting for an actual answer to my question.

I asked the commissioned sales associate at MicroCenter that exact question and he said "the more expensive one is better"

Is the Intel vs. Ryzen for business/desktop apps like Handbrake / Office's real-world use really negligible however? Or are we talking like a video conversion that takes 5 minutes on Ryzen 78003xd take only 3 minutes on this Intel?
