Does this use the optical sensor like on the OG n64 controller?
Optical sensor gave so much fine tune control. Much better than hall effect and potentiometer used today.
Unfortunately no. It uses pots. Some seem to like it but others say it's not quite 100% accurate. Still uses the plastic bowl setup so may be susceptible to the plastic wear of the original. From what I read the joystick is also not easily swapable with the original. I decided to hold off on getting one. I would rather do the 8bitdo mod the person above posted. I've had very good experience with that company's products.
If you are using OG's I would recommend opening them and adding some lithium grease to the bowl to prolong it's life. I assume you could also grease this one but don't know for sure.

You can indeed pair this with adapters like the blueretro for the original N64. It's awesome using on original hardware and on a CRT.

Curious if it works with the 8bitdo adapter.

edit: finally found a good teardown video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D2WeiUc
Looks like this one comes with a pre-lubed bowl so that's nice I guess.
