The mulch material absorbs 6x its weight in water and expands up to 4x when wet to surround the seeds in a moist protective layer. Scotts® EZ Seed® also has a tackifier to reduce seed wash-away on sloped areas of your lawn! Spring and early summer are the best times to plant EZ Seed® because the seed germinates best when daytime temperatures are between 60°F and 80° F. The southern part of the country uses warm season grasses, such as Bermudagrass, Centipede grass, St Augustine, as well as others. We have EZ Seed Patch and Repair products specifically for Bermudagrass and Centipede grass, and an EZ Patch and Repair product for St Augustine grass (this product does not contain seed as St Augustine is grown as sod, this helps the grass grow and recover more quickly).

If you click on the product page on the Wmt site, scroll through the images. The 6th image defines the suitable map. It does show that it may not be suitable for southern UT. I was looking for Texas. So pretty much useless in southern states.
