The item has two components….. the kettle rests on a separate, corded base for heating. The kettle can travel, off the base, without a cord, but yeah I see what you mean though.

Not a typical find in the American household, but I find it to be extremely useful. Working and living in foreign countries, I found them weird, until I used one, and I used it quite often while living abroad.
