(sorry, I was thinking about r100... this is comparable to r50, but r50 has a slightly better sensor)

Just a note: this camera doesn't have a viewfinder. It's just the screen on the back, which is fine for most, but if you want the viewfinder, got to go up a model to the z50.

I wish they had the body only. I don't have a use for DX lenses.

Would this be good for taking professional photos of my kids? Wife is interested.

It's generally good enough for average consumers for handheld, low-light shots without flash.

There's better, but those cameras will cost 3x+ more.

Depends on how well you can use the camera in a manual mode. If you don't know much about camera settings and lighting, latest smartphones will likely yield better results.

Thanks. She'd have to learn. We have iPhone SE 3rd gen and our friends with androids have 10x better quality photos and you just point and shoot. That's what I'm hoping to achieve

I think you can wait and think about it the next morning. It's that hot of a camera.

Good pictures start with clarity. Just make sure your shuttle speed is fast enough to capture a clear picture. Next, focus on the eyes. Otherwise, the pictures on the phone are not even close to these cameras. Most important lesson learned, post processing with Lightroom is a must. Professional photographers will not tell you that, but post processing is almost a necessity.
