I buy broken hinge laptops for media play. Usually I get 8th Gen i5 or i7 for $50 or so in Facebook and those will blow this out of the water but they aren't presentable and use more power. Luckily I have them hidden away in the closet. This is a good price though for a nice little machine you can carry with you. Why don't they add a cheap 720p cellphone LCD to this and make it a ring laptop, I don't get it.
Acemagic minipc have been reported to have malware. So better to do a fresh install and get the drivers separately.
This... providing a link is a lot more helpful than just pointing out the shortfalls

There's several users reporting that,i had doubt, but its true.

The trojan found was Malgent!/MTB , the path was C:\recovery\OEM\osver\endidev.exe

Other symptoms were the pc was extremely slow to do windows update and after reboot it sent one more warning with a new virus...

So what i did is format it all fresh install from USB key , changed boot option from bios , started anew with an official microsoft image. Then after installation it was a pain to find drivers as nothing was detected and autoinstalled, nothing on acemagician site, the wifi driver for exemple.

Managed to get it all on some forums , no virus on scan except a memory integrity warning from defender. I double checked everything and dont see anything not activated.

Now i hope there's nothing wrong in uefi and bios, you can never know.

Almost all computers, laptops, desktops and so forth have the ability to use 110V or 230V supply as its just like any other switching transformer. Takes AC and outputs DC. This units is just the same, any 12V power supply can power it. Same for USB chargers.
many thanks you saved me a call to their tech support.

Idk, i was going to buy an updated android tv box but almost all development stopped during the pandemic and replaced with malwsre tv boxes, so i will replace my aging tv box with a laptop(or micro itx build) htpc next year

You don't understand the details of what secure boot does vs measured boot... Secure boot is specifically the verifying of uefi drivers being run until exit runtime services is called. If malware is in the bios code, it's "before" the verification.

It sounds like you don't know what UEFI runtime services are.

It sounds like you don't understand that there's a handoff between secure boot UEFI and the operating system.

In order to traverse that, there needs to be an exploit available on the receiving end.

So a couple things to remember, the last couple years of IBM branded thinkpads were made by Lenovo. And the other thing, Lenovo is majority owned by the Chinese government through basically a government owned holding company.

What does this have to do with the fact that the only major reported incident by the US military for hardware they received was at a time when Lenovo was owned by IBM?

They failed to audit their hardware and nothing happened to IBM. End of story.

I think he knows very well what UEFI is and is instead curious of how vulnerable this is to a LogoFAIL attack.

How about you let him comment for himself?

I own a few mini PCs, including this one, and they are great. No USB-C stinks, but I run some of mine headless (without a monitor) as Minecraft servers for my kids and others as desktop computers for goofing around/internet browsing. I recommend doing a full format and reinstalling the operating system of your choice. The Win10/11 key is baked into the motherboard, so you don't need to worry about backing that up or scrambling for a key.

If you don't mind, can you provide the source? Is this true for all the Mini PCs out there? Which brands are better or safer?

I'm wanting to pick one up but worry that they all have some key logging software or something that puts our privacy or data at risk.

Doesn't have a slot for video card. Forget it. To play newer games gotta have a video card. Much faster

Dude are you seriously complaining about not being able to add a dedicated video card to a mini PC? This isn't for gaming.

Very hard for returns and refunds.
I have had a night mare trying to return unopened product and waiting for refund from 3 months. I will go ahead and file a CC refund request this week.

I'm not a mini-PC wiz and may have this comparison wrong. But I wish I had gotten a deal such as this for my homelab rather than my Raspberry Pi 5.

8 GB Raspberry Pi 5 @ $85 shipped
Enclosure w/ fan & NVMe @ $61 shipped
Still need a specific wall wart @ ~$15 shipped

This seems more capable, cheaper, and pre-assembled.
Using a pi depends on your use case. For me I use a 1G pi4 for octopi and another 4G pi4 for HA. Used existing power supply and printed my own 3d case. Very dependable and software off the shelf ready made for a pi. Not good for a desktop though.

I like to know if the malware enhances the user experience (i.e. additive) or simply decrepit legacy code. I'm simply gonna use this mini PC as a home entertainment box. China makes majority of the tech we use daily and malware fears haven't lead us to mass abandonment of these techs.
