This or the Zenbook 14 Ryzen 7 8840HS from Walmart?
I bought the zenbook 8840HS last week for 800 but 512gb instead of 1TB here.

lightweight and very skeptical of the battery life BUT it lasted me 11 hours on 85% charge. i didn't use the laptop for 11 hours straight, probably 3-4 hours off and on (1-hour intervals of constant use) but coming back to the laptop while youtube live was playing on one of the tabs the whole time to 17% left was eye-opening for me. tested this two or three times so far and i'm just impressed. when i read about how well the 7840u was doing for other laptops i was trying to get the zenbook with that processor but couldn't find one and just jumped on this instead.

about 40% brightness, volume at 26%, turned off the touchscreen in device manager, used edge instead of firefox. i did quite a bit of tuning for the laptop using stuff like g-helper or amdapuutility and ctt utils so that's probably why i got a couple more hours but i'm glad i made this purchase.

i came from a 5-lb gaming laptop (2020 legion 5; i7) that even on battery saver mode would, at best, last me 3 hours.

my only grip with this is the OLED. honestly would not recommend people get oled laptops. save it for the tv. you really have to be at a certain angle to read so that's gonna suck if you're reading a lot of articles or documents. double sucks if you wear glasses too because so if you have specific reading glasses or if your glasses aren't properly aligned with your eyes (to my own fault), it just makes it that much harder. the screen is crispy and vivid but i'd still prefer an anti-glare, matte screen. still getting used to it...

I wonder if you put a matte screen protector on it what woukd it look like?

How does this compared to the 2022 Apple MacBook Air with the M2? The trade in value for the M2 Air is $700. I was thinking of trading my M2 Air for this Asus. This is really for comsuption, surfing the internet, watching youtube. I don't game. I value battery life.

I have m1air but it's becoming slower with the new os. I like the Mac build quality but the RAM and Disk space they offer are too low for the price.

After 5 days of researching this and a ton of other laptops (and creating the obligatory spreadsheet comparing specs...) I just ordered it. I am a home/business user who opens a lot of tabs and apps, but I don't need/want gaming performance (uses battery) and I don't even need the OLED. I tried going lower spec and lighter, but the wonderous reviews about the OLED (from other non gamers / non creatives), battery life, IR camera, Intel Meteor Lake + Arc, Thunderbolt... this higher spec was cheaper / better than the lower spec comparables! This is a super solid deal and quite future proof. I'm excited. Thanks everyone for the critical feedback!

I, too, spent a bunch of time back in March researching, buying and comparing OLED laptops (I got hooked when I saw the ASUS Creator Q540 w/Core i9 from BB and fell in love with OLED). While an otherwise great laptop, the Q540 really fell short on battery life with 3-4 hours max. So I finally went with a Lenovo P16s w/4K OLED, 7840u and 64GB LPDDR5 RAM for $1100.

But this ASUS really looks interesting except for a couple standout limitations -- the 1200p display and 16GB RAM. Not sure I could go backwards, but the smaller, lighter size would be welcomed. As an IT tech, one of the big plusses on the P-series was the RJ45 ethernet jack so I don't have to mess with dongles, and this Asus is missing that, too.

Might try one out (our local BB has in stock and I have a bunch of BB rewards to help lower the price even more).

what's the battery life on the p16s?

i order a t14s with the same processor and 57Wh battery but haven't opened it due to the amd version of this zenbook (8840hs; from my previous post) doing extremely well for my use cases so far.

4K YouTube video playback is about 8 hours (on normal settings with almost 100% brightness) on the P16s, but it has a 78Wh battery I think. The P14s has the smaller battery like the T14s.

Decided to buy this for my mom who asked for a touchscreen laptop, a little more than I was hoping to spend, but since shew doesn't care about graphics and needs something powerful and fast enough that can handle lots of word docs and lots of webpages open, this seems to be a good fit. Great that its so light (under 3 lbs), it has an aluminum case and backlit keyboard.

The RAM not being upgradable really hurts these, it's just really great all around but 16gb should be on the cheaper Core 3/5 models only, the bare minimum. An Ultra 7 should be 32gb minimum.

I've been eating a new laptop for work and this one checks all the boxes for me. Just ordered one. Here's a comprehensive review.
