I haven't used them, but they don't seem to even been around $200 (except in their official webpage), looking at Amazon's price history in CamelCamelCamel.
Still consistently good reviews, and $40 is lower than usual.

(Edit: they blocked my link to CamelCamelCamel)

Yes! I ended up ordering one of their sets of pans with removable handles and lids after several influencer reels promoting them showed on my IG feed and they haven't been very good. They come out of the dishwasher full of a black metal powder that stains everything including your fingers and the lids lose their shape quickly, even though the hole set claims to be dishwasher safe. I bet there are nowhere near the $200 MSRP range.

At $40 for a whole 14-piece set including the block I'd say it's still a good deal even if the quality is not great mainly because of the aesthetics, since white stuff is trendy now and they definitely seem to look nice. If you don't care about that however, I'm sure you can find a similar option in black from a more reputable brand like Cuisinart or Oster from your local Marshalls for around the same price.

I took the gamble! It's full tang too. It's Wal-Mart, so if I have any issues, it's covered. For $40, it's not a huge bet.

Same, I got it today and it looks great in my kitchen counter! We shall see if I got the rusty ones or not, it looks like not everyone had that problem.

Edit: so for future reference, they did rust right way, not all of them but many, and in one specific spot (I hand washed). Really nice and sharp knives otherwise, bummer :/

My local Shoprite supermarket had these last Fall, full tang, black plastic handles, marketed as Farberware. Giveaway at $15 for the set. Pretty good knives, sharp on day one, and they resharpen well.
I dislike the steak knives, serrated. As Farberware they've generally been sold for $40-$60.

It is a product with actively managed reviews and probably paying customers to jack up reviews. Everyone complains about rusting. Also, some have said it is too light. Obviously, they used very cheap thin stainless steel. And it is consistently sold at less than $50 on Amazon. So not a great deal too.
