For versatility it's best to mount it on the corner of your workbench, so you can access it from 2 directions. Bolted down is the only way to go.

Bought one of these last time. It's surprisingly nice for the money. Heavy and has been good for the few things I've needed it for in that time. At $40 if you need one it's a solid deal. Huge improvement over the one I replaced with it that was similarly priced purchased at Home Depot a few years ago.
