I like where this set goes in relation to reaching an audience with a specific motor skill level. However, I'd suggest that this overlaps very closely with a basic Snap Circuits set.

Unfortunately, the most flexible base (read: more projects for the money) model Snap Circuits sets haven't been available at this price range for over a year. (See here) That 100-project model would regularly pop under $20 even at local retailers like Target and Wal-Mart.

There is a more directly comparable 20-project Snap Circuits [elenco.com] set which has dropped at or below this current deal price in the last year and I'd rather recommend as a better starter kit than something like this Educational Insights product. In particular, should your child enjoy the experience there's a clear path to purchasing larger Snap Circuits models with progressively more involved projects (with hundreds of kits that also do an impressive job of attempting to introduce different concepts).

Good luck!
Jon
