Definitely hard to believe even high-quality unfilled injection molded plastic costs $50, let alone the MSRP. I love my original model, but I can't justify this price.

I retired my aeropress after 6 years of daily use when I got the Clever dripper. The XL has intrigued me but I think the plunge time is too high for me to get my brew dialed in.

Clever dripper with 500g of water and 30g of beans for 90 seconds is just perfection.

this may not be the best value in the aeropress lineup. However, it makes better coffee than machines in the $300-$5000 dollar range. So it can be viewed as a tremendous deal on the best coffee maker in the world.

isn't one of the main draws to the aeropress the fact that it has paper filters? there are benefits to having a paper filter which isn't just for keeping grounds out of your coffee

Aren't the filters like 0.02c each. I'd take forever just to break even. Not to mention the time and cost of water to clean it.

Plus a single paper filter can last for like 50 cups of coffee then can be repurposed as a backup bathroom sink drain plug.

Awesome. Grabbed one. I have the AeroPress Go, but keep forgetting it at work. Makes me wonder if they're prepping to release the XL in Tritan plastic like they did with the original.

Hope in Clear!
I have the regular size in Clear.

I have the Go and are you saying to just to double the amount of ground coffee and then pour another 8 oz of hot water into the finished cup?

Are you doing the inverted brew? how long of rest before the press?

You may have saved me another $50.
yup! that's exactly how I do it.

There are some benefits to paper, yes. However, there are other benefits to the metal filters. There's even different types (Mesh, Disc etc.) for different use cases. If you look up the AeroPress championship winners... they use metal filters.

agree. Metal filter makes it more like a french press, some (albeit probably not that much) fines will get through, and oil will get through that would normally get caught by paper filter. It makes a slightly different coffee.
Paper filters are not that expensive and if you wanted to be eco friendly you could probably compost. I l ike that the whole thing comes out as a puck at the end, remove the cap, plunge it all the way through, and a puck of grounds falls into trash for easy cleaning. Also not that expensive, ~$10 of filters will last me several months easily

Some people (including me) prefer metal filters because they allow oils through--without those the coffee can taste "thinner". But it's down to personal preference.

I'm a coffee connoisseur judge and want that nasty "full body" coffee flavor , metal mesh wins my vote.

Everyone else prefers smooth tasty coffee paper aeropress filters. Aeropress doesn't make the technical definition of espresso...but there are many people who would chooose aeopress over espresso. And rate it better than machines costs thousands up to 10,000 dollars.
