Interesting hypothesis. Do you have any data?

I'm on the fence over whether this is a good deal or not. I had seen it, but chose not to post it for that reason. To me, the critical aspect would be how much you value the charger. If that has positive value at something around $20, then I think this is a good deal. For me I would put a $45 value on the 1.7Ah battery, and so the remaining $74 is split between the 5.0Ah and the charger. For me $74 seems high for the 5.0Ah, if the charger is worthless for you; but $54 seems like a good price if there is $20 value in the charger. FWIW, this is a decent charger. It's a two-stage 4.0A charger, the replacement to the DCB115.

For complete transparency, I might be slightly tainted since I got two of these kits for $99 all in from a previous deal but, given that that deal is no longer available, it's moot to the valuation.

I ordered two 3 Amp batteries for $98. Now confused, should I order this one or keep the one I ordered. I'm not a professional, just use tools for my personal work and hobby. I would calculate just the battery value and consider charger as good to have a spare one.

Want to know a little DeWalt hack without having to buy new batteries? Your batteries are warrantied for around 3 years.

Cough, cough, call them and let them know there is a malfunction with one of your batteries (any of them have a charging issue) and they'll send you a replacement free of charge.

I haven't bought new batteries in over 5 years, but DeWalt keeps em' coming so I will continue to use this hack.

I only own 20V 8ah and 3ah batteries. Will never buy another battery again.

I could be wrong, but I don't think powerstack makes a 3 Amp version so you most likely got the regular one. So the answer is yes. Return those and get these

its far more likely its just stuff that amazon wants to move quickly. because companies use JIT manufacturing and dont keep a large stock of inventory, there is always a slate of new inventory arriving at set times. if amazon or other retailers havent sold off existing stock, they will usually do a sale to quickly move things in order to make way for the next batch.

Powerstack batteries are smaller than the normal 20V batteries and they say they have a lifespan 2x that of the normal 20V.

Couldn't confirm the lifespan of the powerstacks being 2x as much since I use my warranty trick to keep my batteries fresh before the 3 year warranty goes out. Never had an issue and only spent about $250 on my initial set (8ah, 3ah, 2ah) and I have multiples of each now. Been using the 20V line since it came out.

POWERSTACK batteries are made up of flat lithium ion pouches stacked up (hence the name) whereas the 5Ah XR batteries are more traditional cylindrical cells (18650s). The advantage of the pouches is they can sustain higher currents with less sag. That means that, even from the compact (1.7Ah) POWERSTACK, it is able to provide enough power to tools with higher current draws.

When the compact POWERSTACK was released, one of the marketing points was the small size to capacity ratio. However, the 5.0Ah POWERSTACK (which was released a year later) is actually slightly bigger than the 5.0Ah XR battery.
