Yes, I'm your exact size and I use an ocean kayak with a 500lb weight limit, doesn't sink at all.

It was being clearances out at Walmart. I happened to have some Walmart cash which brought it down to $220ish. I've seen it at Big 5 for around $350ish on occasion, too.
Skill issue. Sounds like you're just not "one" with the kayak then. 10 minutes in the water and the kayak or canoe feels like it is a part of me, and once that happens, nothing can knock me in. This kayak is for flat water only, it will be fine.
As others have said get a stadium seat, I also added rails for a fish finder, cup holder, more rod holders, etc.
