Since the OEM part purchased directly from dealership is failing pretty regularly, it makes the $35.99 Amazon knockoff a lot more tempting than waiting to miss out preordering my next one. YMMV, of course - this part is not failing functionally, it only sets a code because the sensor can't determine that it hasn't failed.
Originally, they said the part would ship by end of December. They had confirmed twice the parts were in stock and once had even "confirmed" parts would ship by mid-December.
Now the part is on back order through this month? I suspect they realized they were losing money with free shipping and will continue to push out delivery. They've offered multiple times to cancel my order, but I want the parts I've paid for…
I purchased a few parts from Serra Toyota of Decatur. I think they were not at all prepared for the onslaught of their sale. My parts did arrive and I received all notifications prior. It took a week or so for parts to ship, but this is FAST compared to other parts I've ordered from other dealerships.
Most recently, my issue was with Vandergriff of Arlington Toyota. Zero communication. Would hang up immediately upon answering the phone. I had to track down the parts manager herself to have the order ultimately cancelled and refunded because I had been told THREE different things: "We will get it in 2 weeks." "It will be here next week." (After the initial 2 weeks.) Then two weeks after that, I got, "it's shipping right now, I'm boxing it up as we speak." (Then it never showed and I never got an email.)
I know that was a tangent BUT with Serra I did think they were more on the ball than most (see above). I've called dealerships across the country about parts and, overwhelmingly, the answer I get most frequently is, "That part is on back order." Whatever the issue is with supply, it is not just them.
My most recent door handle order (8 pieces), I ultimately called a dealer in Cincy and the shockingly informative parts guy told me I was #14 on the wait-list for my parts. He said, "I wish I could tell you when this will come in. There's no way to know." I told him to leave the order open and....sure enough, over the course of the month, my handles have shown up one at a time.
