I own top end knives in the $200+ range. Decided to get a knife for my dad who doesn't carry one and went with an elementum. I was impressed with the quality for the price. He's had it for a few years now and gets anxiety now when it's not in his pocket because he uses it everyday. I say all of this to say I don't think you can go wrong with one.
QSP also has a sale going on with their penguin. Black stonwash with shredded carbon fiber scales for $38.66. If you like sheepsfoot blades another good choice at a low price point.
Civivis are really nice knives. It's the budget line of WE knives (premium) and the whole company has a stellar reputation. This is not any Chinese knife manufacturer.
There are still affordable Chinese blades. Civivi are not garbage knives from my experience. That's why they are not 20 bucks.
I wouldnt throw the baby out with the bathwater without at least trying one.

Anyone have this knife? One of the reviewers stated they didn't feel confident with the lockup, and honestly for this price, I would expect better contact if there is an issue.
I do not have this model but I have 4 civivis, 2 Spyderco and 3(used to have 4) Benchmades plus some other brands and Civivi's build quality is just as good or better in some regards.
They're a sub brand of WE knife Co that is a higher end brand. They just use less costly steels to get the price down.
I think they're the best bang for your buck. I would probably get more but I want to try different brands so I'm going for a Hogue next.
They have better models though, not sure how much of a deal this really is. I think my button lock nitro V elementium was around the same price.
I'm not a knife enthusiast (researching blade steels, etc), but I sure like them, use them and have quite a few. Since I got this one, it's been my daily carry. For me it checks all the boxes of size, smooth action, ergonomics, and the deep carry (black) clip. I much prefer it to the silver clips that most of my other knives have and much more visible in the front pocket. At this price I'll probably buy a backup.

No, Civivi's build quality isn't as good as Spyderco's. Civivi knives look and feel cheap, which is fine because they're budget knives. They also have poor cutting geometry compared to Spyderco.
The hobby of pocket knives is very polarizing, especially with people who are fiercely loyal to a particular brand, or anti-foreign manufacturing.
But objectively, Civivi is probably among the top budget vendor for dollar to quality/performance. The $40-$50 price range has an amazing selection of good knives out there. I personally own the Voltaic, and can vouch that it's a great knife for $45. It's on the larger side (8" open, 4.5" closed) so I don't EDC it - but the blade came paper-cutting sharp, and honestly I feel like 14C28N is the best all-around budget steel you can buy for the average enthusiast/user.
remember when chinese blades were affordable? as far as i know, every blade from civici is made in china, and none of its cheap.
i'll leave it to others to post about quality or lack thereof. I'm simply pointing to a map and letting others decide if it matters to them.
They still are. This is one specific brand is more upmarket. But there are countless others that are still very inexpensive. Some are great values for the money, others more "you get what you pay" for territory.
Slicing meat!?? Am I using my edc flippers wrong??
I use EDC for everything, because I EDC and you've got to use what you've got. I've cut a take and bake pizza in half in a parking lot once to send half of it home with someone else. Maybe if I EDC scissors I'd have used that instead.
Nitro-V steel? What is this considered? High end, but not top of the line like M390 right?
It is very similar to the 14C28N they were using in their blades before. More mid-level than high-end. Hold an edge better than a budget steel like 8Cr13MoV while still being very easy to resharpen. This would be a big step down from M390. It is a very tough steel and likely would be great for a camp knife.

Disregard, I found the QSP sale from few different sellers. Thanks!

It's not a big step down from M390, but it is a step down. Nitro-V is a good steel too. I don't know offhand how many knives I have, or how many different steel variations, but Civivi makes a great product. Reate, Kunwu, Piratech, We/Civivi/Sencut, Rike and Miguron are all Chinese brands, but I would take value and quality over most American knife brands, depending on materials of course. Not trying to compare a 14C knife to a Magnacut knife, but apples to apples any of these brands will beat most other brand for less. I have Chris Reave knives, Hogue, Protech, Heretic, Microtech and others, and for the price some Chinese brands are hard to beat. I would take my Kunwu Chads, Djangos or Pulsars over a Chris Reeves any day of the week. Same goes with Giantmouse, although they are Italian and not Chinese, and they can use Magnacut. About the only affordable, good knives, now a days are Chinese. Although, Kershaw's new Bel Air and the Hogue Deka and Sig lines are not crazy priced either. You can get a Maxace Medusa for 108 bucks, great auto OTF in a good steel, and it has better action than my Microtechs, for a 1/4 the price.
Here's a link to a real steel comparison chart. And if you want to know why so many American companies and knife designers work with Chinese OEMs, Bladeshow ATL is in June and I'll be there with some of them.
EDIT: it's blocking the Knife Nerd site, but it is the go to for steel comparisons by the majority of the knife community. Just Google it, the guy that made it came up with Magnacut, which is the newest "big thing", and it is good, but Elmax, ZDP189, and Vanax are pretty nice too, depending on use.
