looks like this will only do 8" wide, so 11" rolls won't fit (so why is the model number "11"20)I can't believe how expensive these are lately.
I got my vm2244 (fits 11" wide bags) years ago for less than this and it's still going
picked up an older model for back up at goodwill for $5
Can't do without vacuum sealer if you have a garden, also handy for any deal you get like grains or coffee and want to keep the extras in the freezer for a while.

Thrift stores are awash with various models of vacuum sealers. Do your research first because features vary, and be sure to check for deals like this since thrift stores seem to be jumping in with both feet into the inflation frenzy.

Been using these for fish and deer for years. This is a cheap one but will get the job done. I prefer the bigger models that can store and cut the bag rolls.

Any way to confirm they work though?

They probably do. It appears to me that most people give them up because they don't use them as opposed to wearing them out. There's usually an outlet around in thrift stores. If you press the button and hear a motor run, it's probably fine. Lock the lever before testing. When you're done testing, the sealing strip should be hot (test carefully). You can also put your finger over the port hole and press the "canister" button to check for vacuum there too.

If I were checking and those three things checked out, I'd have no problem buying if the price were right.

Get one from costco when 75 on sale, it's big and powerful, can even seal bags of chips. Enough for food prep for big family. With this tiny boy you'll only struggle.

Isn't the film for vacuum sealers more expensive than standalone bags and wrap?

I have been happy with the Kirkland brand refills.
$23.99
Features:
3 Rolls 8in×20ft and 4 Rolls 11in×16ft
50 Precut 1qt Bags
BPA-Free
Compatible with Most Vacuum Sealing Systems

Compared to FoodSaver brand:
$44.99
2 rolls 8"x20ft and 3 rolls 11"x16ft
46 precut 1qt bags.

If you are asking about using ziplocs vs foodsaver, I can't help you. They are two very different use cases and I use both.

Ya the rolls are 8" wide so will work with this unit. I tried the rolls ended up going back to the premade ones just easier. Got 100 premade 8" x 12" generic bags off of Amazon for $17. So 100ft of bags for the same price as 2 15ft rolls.

Why is everyone giving away their vacuum sealers? Are they not all they're cracked up to be?

What are you actually "foodsaving"? what do you vacuum seal? I'm really curious about these, and what people actual do with them. I mean the picture shows an $0.80 avocado being sealed.. who doesn't just eat the full fruit?

It takes effort to use them, and you have to have some specific need. It's one of those things people buy without really knowing what they'll use it for, but, you know, it must be good for something. But they take up space, and unless people have done their research, the price of the Jarden branded bags scares them away. And used canisters can go for $20-$30 each on eBay.
