I agree with the OP, great for grilling, not good for smoking. Going to grab a couple sets. Thanks!

If it ships in loose bags, its gonna be charcoal dust.

Exactly, except the opposite.

Y'all need to stop this crap of claiming the charcoal that's over 1/lb is good deal. just stop.

Why wouldn't it be good for smoking? I'm using kamado so wouldn't all lumps be the same?

Size of the lump. You want large lumps for smoking.

Got it. Hopefully I can be worse than royal oak. But if I find rocks in it or arrive in bags vs box.. then I'll just return it.

Jealous Devil is also $20 per 20 lb. bag, for those who prefer their lump.

I can buy 40lb of mesquite charcoal $~20 locally. I can see myself going to the FOGO Premium Lump over the massive mesquite blocks I may get in a bag of mesquite charcoal.

Whether it's inflation or price gouging, I have accepted that $1/lb for lump charcoal with decent review is going to be a good time to stock.

Please share with the community if you find charcoal deals for 50 cents per pound.

I can also find mesquite lump here in SoCal for about $0.50/lb. I mostly like it for grilling. Walmart has B&B lump for about $0.75/lb. Seems like the best price/performance lump so far.

On another note, I can't believe Royal Oak lump is $1/lb, that stuff is terrible.

That's usually briquettes for 25cents/pound. Generally lump coal, ranges around .75-$1/pound. I usually use B&B lump for smoking as the pieces are bigger, and use this FOGO for grilling as the sizes are a bit smaller.

Personally, I prefer lump over briquettes as lump has a cleaner taste and less ash by weight to clean up.
