Less efficient and more niche market segment. Most consumer demand is focused on m.2 NVME tech/form factor. Many companies wouldn't even bother manufacturing this style unless they can get a higher margin from selling it. Since there are use cases where a consumer might need the antiquated form factor for their SSDs the market continues to supply them, but not at competitive prices.
