There is an infuriating amount of literal trash in this, especially plastics. The rest is mostly mulch.

My assumption is that miracle gro licenses this out to different manufacturers regionally (I doubt they're shipping dirt cross country). If you're in the northeast, open a bag or two before you buy an entire pallet.
Yes. If you do a 1:1 mix with potting mix.
Works well for both queen size and king size

I am not a professional gardener whatsoever. I just bought some rose bushes from Home Depot. Which soil you would recommend? This or Sta Green deal from Lowe's in another thread? Thx so much. I am still learning about how to plant a flower in backyard.

How do this compare Lowe's Sta Green soil, aside from being more expensive per cu ft

id blend this with the sta green. Peat is good. So is coco coir..amend with organic fertilizer.

my ideal mix is 37%peat 38%compost 25%clay/topsoil. add 10pct perlite for cool factor.

Bought some at Lowes two weeks ago for $2.29/bag and then got more at HD two days ago at $2.00. I called Lowes customer service and they adjusted the $2.29 price down to $2.00. Short story: Both have this for $2.00/bag - at least here in San Antonio, TX.

I was able to order online at Lowes. HD was in store purchase only. Not that big of a deal as they had plenty in stock but did want to point out the difference.

Is anyone here familiar how this product may compare? → https://slickdeals.net/f/17437725-select-lowe-s-stores-1-cu-ft-sta-green-in-ground-vegetable-flower-garden-soil-2-free-store-pickup?src=SiteSearchV2Algo1

The problem with MG is that the nitrogen is derived from synthetic ammonium and water soluble nitrates, producing off-chemicals that are harmful to soil microbes, worms, and all other forms of life in the soil. It doesn't contribute to long-term soil health and sustainability. Your garden could become dependent on constant synthetic fertilizer treatments. ALSO! MG is made by Scott's. This company was convicted for KNOWINGLY selling poison bird seed for years to profit from killing the bird populations across the country. maybe the world. They can not be trusted to not do underhanded bullshit to max profits. It's clear that environmental damage is acceptable behavior for this company. They should be boycotted out of existence! Adding foxfarm/roots organic to compost and to revitalize old soil will make it go much farther. You get better long term results using a better product.

Got a couple of these.
Mixed them with a bit of compost/manure mix + small bag of perlite.
Took a few scoops and ran it through my DIY sifter (used the mulchy bits for coverage on a few potted things)
Pretty happy with it overall.

Yes as a filler on the base. I'd add better quality on top of it. This will eventually decomposed in couple of years (mulch leaf etc )

Quote from Mamal2 :
I just purchased the Sta-Green from Lowes and it certainly is mostly mulched/pulverized wood/chips. I dont mind(maybe) as I just used it to top off some raised beds that I pre loaded with leaves and partially composted yard waste. I then topped it off with a couple bags of cheap potting soil that i got from Walmart clearance last year, which was also basically just more mulched wood chips, but a little bit more composted.

I say this to say I've bought the miracle grow a few years ago and I've gotten bags that were definitely more broken down, but they were kinda like top soil and needed to be amended. I've also had some that were kinda like the sta-green bags I just got. Guess it's luck of the draw what's being offered. I'm in Milwaukee if that matters to you.

I've seen this too.
Opened a couple bags Sunday of the sta green and they were infested with large nasty grubs . There was well over 30 in one bag.
Lord only knows where they import the garbage from to make this stuff now that everyone trying to save money and eat healthier..
